Surprised you drew a blank at Tempest
Well done and thanks for the report.
Hi Guys
Had the oppotunity to do a trip out on Sunday with the plan being to head to some marks between deep and shallow tempest hoping to find a feed of snapper.
We left Scarbrough a bit before mid day with the plan of finding a few livies at the western rocks then looking around in close to the cape as this is an area i have never spent much time. Well the livies were elusive and after sounding around for half an hour gave up on that and headed to the cape where all i could catch was scorpion cod and small wrase.
We were down near tempest by 3 pm and spent an hour sounding around looking for fish. Managed a few small pearlies that we released. We were battling a short choppy sea created by a current from the north and wind from the south and with a lack of fish on board the call was made to travel from there to shallower water with hopefully less current at wide caloundra.
With the wind and chop behind us we covered the 40 km in just under an hour. A quick check of the bottom with the sounder located some impressive schools of bait with larger fish around them.
To cut a long story short we finished with a great bag of pearlies the 3 biggest 500mm long. 4 trag jew, one mowong that was kept for someone at the mates factory and 5 snapper. The biggest snapper measured 760mm..
By 6,30 we had enough fish and headed back to Scarbrough sitting at 50 km/h the whole trip over glassed out seas.
We covered 160 km using 80 liters of fuel

Thanks Trevaley
I was fishing about 4 km west of deep tempest and the current wind combination in 80 meters of water was difficult to fish so moving further east would only have become more difficult and wide caloundra is fishing well at the moment. It was a risky decision to travel that distance so late in the afternoon with the bite period approaching but you are correct that persistance does pay off.
A mate of mine was out there yesterday and caught bugger all for his efforts so well done.
You are killing me Russ. I was on call for work on the weekend so could only dream of wetting a line, at least it gave me some extra pocket money for future fishing trips!! Glad to see you got amongst them.
Thanks Brendan. I was going to give you a call Sunday morning to check on your availability but had second thoughts because of the short notice about the trip.
I might be able to help you with learning to use your sounder if we ever get to go for a fish.
Nice fish. well done.
Cheers, Doug.
Love to use Preditek or Kingfisher lures or Viva Lures when I am out fishing.
