What was that? That sounds like a story worth hearing.

    1. Becoming a fairly typical scenario which can generally be summed up by incompetence, lack of experience, lack of maintenance and a general negative attitude.

    2. Attitudes need to change very quickly re the issue of running out of fuel (and other issues) thinking the person selling chook raffles last week was all for some &^%$#*&^ benefit.

Maybe needs to be like the automobile clubs. Specify a certain amount of fuel/tow distance available as part of membership and beyond that you pay. Not a member than you pay for the total bill. Beyond 2 nautical miles offshore than you must have affiliation with volunteer organisation as part of your safety gear along with epirb flares etc.

    1. Not point in being in denial of this issue as this is something that needs to be urgently addressed before some boaties start thinking this behaviour is the norm.

    2. Credit card payments over the radio sound a real good idea .... plus 20% surcharge

    There is Waterside assist.

    http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...reton-Bay-wide

There was another organisation.. Seatow... but :- http://www.seatow.com.au/

I believe there is a call for a Roadside assist type scheme, where every boat sold from a retailer comes with Waterside Assist to VMR.

There is also no reason a small fee could not be added to the change of registration form from Dpt tpt... say $10 and all go to VMR.

I also believe the RUF could be upped by $5 and these funds go directly to VMR ( $5 x 237,000 = $ 1,185,000.00 divided by 45 odd squadrons is $26,300 each per year) That roughly equates to each squadrons fuel bill....... !

You cannot legislate against stupidity and you cannot condemn ignorance ( due to lack of education ), so there will always be the " out of fuelers, flat batteries etc ", we just have to make sure the volunteers that put in the time & effort are funded well enough to do thier job.

These men and women are " first responders " in many life and non-life threatening situations and in a lot of cases the Water Police call on them to lead a rescue, so why shouldn't they recieve appropriate funding ?

I believe it is up to the individual to take up membership of a VMR or at least be prepared to pay for the real cost of rescue. Or, next time you pass a VMR, just drop in a Redback or two for the Lads.
