Well we where supposed to be down at Tiger Mullet breaming tonight, then that became heading to Curtain which then became heading offshore for snapper and Pearlies. Wardy laughed a bit when i said ill bringing my usual snapper 25lb floatling outfit, apparently we where off to Stuie's and Wardy's snapper spot .
Had a late night at work not helped by Wardy arriving at 2.30am, off to Stuie's and on the road. Trip up was uneventful apart from Wardys calling call, jesus i had it all night down the pin downwind the other week and i was in the passengers still downwind. Anyway hit the water and where at the spot by sun up. Stuie has just whacked a new 150 Merc 4 stroke on the back and it was pretty impressive.
2nd drop, Stuie is loaded up and then Wardy then I am on with similar models to what Stuie hauled up, 3 way hookup on some big snaps, I got pinged on the reef, Wardy reckoned he got either a mackeral or sharked but Stuie hauled up a nice 89cm model. Both Wardy and i then went for the heavier outfits.
Have a small vid of Wardy and Stuie trying to get the jewellery out of that snap with Wardy copping a snapper chop, having a whinge and both trying to figure out why the fishing pliers werent closing…anyway they figured it out after the event and Stuie was stoked.

Next couple of drops, another nice snap in the high 70's-80 was landed and some smaller models. It slowed down but Wardy and Stuie were still getting them and I ony had one in the box. I was copping the usual banter and dropping a nice pearlie didnt help. We kept working the drifts and tried to avoid a blowfly,
Wind came up a bit and we struggled for a while, with the fish shut down. Wardy went the deadstick and noticed that the fish were hitting a bit higher and got a nice snap so we all changed and out came the light floatlining gear again, things turned around for me and i got some nice snaps in the box and gave a bit back to Wardy and Stuie whose turn it was to struggle
We went from wondering if we wouldnt get anymore to a hot bite and bagging out and leaving them biting. Went to another mark for other species on the way home and started very short drifts over the mark, then a Charter boat muscled right in over us and sat there motors running over the pinnacle with over the top whooping and hollering with every undersized fish caught.
Off the edge of the pinnacle I got onto a nice snap but we couldnt keep it as we had our bag, so taking the mickey we all hollered and whooped in Charter boat sympathy and Stuie threw that that 52 cm snap back with a high throw almost right in the lap of the Charter Boats as they where nice and close, the punters comments were gold with why would they throw that back? with the classic deckies response that we had too many fish was gold.
Top day with Wardy and Stuie, ended up bagging out on snapps and a nice Wardy pearlie, we threw back some legal snaps and pearlies and highlight was throwing back a 52 snap in front of the Charter boat who muscled in over the top of us, must admit it felt good to chuck a nice snap back at their feet.
