Hi all,
Does it matter if the thru hull transducer is against the skid of the trailer? Or does it need to be positioned where it will not be touched when loading/unloading from trailer?
Thanks

Hi Ric,
I have the same trailer as you and am about to replace my through hull tranny, it could be a cable fault but mine failed after a run on the trailer from Brisbane to the coast. Cut some trailer off

I've been looking at transducers as well as from everything I read it states that it's what they designed to do..
Interesting to hear you are both going to avoid it with your next one..
I'm leaving towards a TM260 as I dont want to cut the hole in my hull, do you know of any pro's to a thruhull instead of a Transom mount one?
also regatring this good place to get them .. feel free to let me know where this is..
Cheers Dave
IF YOU WANT TO CATCH FISH YOU HAVE TO DRINK LIKE A FISH....HANG ON....MAYBE THAT WAS THINK LIKE A FISH??
I know a great place to get them too, with good techs that posts / ships.

Does that look like a good spot to fit the matched pair ss264??
Sorry about the pictures Im away at work and they are the only pictures I have.
does it looks safe enough between the rollers?
the space between the the bulkhead and the bilge pump is 200mm
Cheers Dave

That spot looks good Dave. Nicely on th V section of the hull, of course.
By the way, if you do get the ss 264 n pairs we can lend you the special big spanner we had made up that fits the big nut on the back.
Here's an excellent video on how to do the install, some really good little tricks and tips that we used:

Hi grant, did you mount your ss264's in the ballast tubes of the surtees?
Jeff - not the Surtees - we put them in my mates Seaswirl Striper 2301. The challenge there was that that hull has a rounded keel so we had to get out far enough to get them onto a reasonably flat section of hull so they would sit flush.
In the Surtees - mmmm would be an interesting install! I dont think it would be really possible to get into the ballast section, not enough height in there. I think you might need to have a special arrangement done somehow when the boat was being built. No doubt if you asked Surtees they would come up with a solution.
I have seen the thru-hulls installed on other plate boats on a small hull extension bracket on the transom, seems to work well in that situation.
But these SS264n ducers are big suckers- you have to realise that the hole to fit them is 95mm round, and at that size they are a tight fit. On the inside, you then have to fit the big nut that holds them in place, so realistically need about 120mm clearance inside the hull. Plus, at an estimate, they are about 80mm deep. Think of them as being about the size of a coffee mug, and you'll have the right perspective.
Currently i am running a P66 on the transom of the Surtees, hooked up to a HDS 5 (gen 1) and it is noticeably better that the standard Lowrance 50/200. I get a perfect picture in smooth-ish water even at WOT, and still a very good picture at normal cruising speed in other conditions.

Grant , Im sold on the ss264n ;-).
just making sure someone will be home to collect them when they are dropped off. probably order on friday I think... can't wait
your matched pair is also a 50khz w , 200khz n ??
have you tested them in a few different water depths and at different speeds? 30, 80, low 100's high 100's etc etc
just interest to hear is its everything it cracked up to be?
