Hello, A friend and I planned a trip to Mud Is on Sunday to chase the elusive Snapper. Met at the Pinkenbar ramp at 6am and on the water in minutes. After an enjoyable ride to Mud we found our drift area and set a drift pattern in an effort to get a nice snapper. After a few smaller models were landed we returned to the start point for another drift. As we were pulling up I noticed a boat that I thought I recognised, but not sure on the 2 occupants, so continued drifting. As we settled into this drift, then Michael is hit and into a decent battle. All of a sudden things get hectic as this big snapper comes charging straight at the boat, under the hull and then out the back. What a bugger, Michael is in full flight battling a good snapper. After another 10 minutes, a 74cm snapper is netted and on the deck, the look of relief on Michael's face is priceless. Well done mate.
We return to the start point and notice the boat we saw earlier is Netmaker, with Davo and a mate drifting along. After a quick hello, Dave mentions his losses and the 6lb mono that let him down. Bugger. we continue on our way.
We drifted around for a few more hours catching small snapper, a 48cm Cod, 47cm flathead and other various fish.
About 4pm we decided to try one more area for a second good keeper for the skipper. After a few drifts I am into a battle with a good snapper, and after 10 tense minutes a 64cm snapper is boated. Same style of fighting, a small run on taking the SP and then back at the boat, took some cleaver rod work to keep the line away from the motor, to get this one. Was glad to see it in the net. With 2 good snapper, 2 smaller snapper and other various models in the esky we head for home very happy with our day.
All fish caught on Dayoo hand crafted Jig Heads and ZMan SP's.
