    Curtis Island--- Yellow Patch

hey, was just chasing a bit of info on yellow patch from anyone in the know..

what is the estuary like? deep enough to get my 4.6 around
and more importantly, is there barra ?

ive fished the western creeks a fair bit for some nice fish, im thinking of spending a few days later on in the year around at yellow patch for something different...

cheers any help would be much appreciated

Yellow patch can take large yachts ...... there are esturaries to the north the hold some good fishing but you need to time the tides as getting in an out on the bottom half of the tides is problematic (if not impossible) . The channels are a bit tricky from what I have seen .
Keppel Creek is popular - To me the ideal situation is to have a mothership in Yellow patch & hit the northern creeks on the top half of the tides .

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Yea ive had a good look at google earth, there are 4 arms to the south west of the big sand blow in the same system, looks like a likely spot, though its hard to tell how deep it is...

Yeah all good with the 4.6 but I would be back at camp 2 hrs before the bottom of the tide

I take a 5.8m trail craft as far up the back as I can about half tide down , let it go dry and fish the holes around the bottom of the tide up until I get chased back to the boat. have tried the first couple of creeks on the western side, haven't fished them all yet. These creeks are beautiful with white sand and crystal clear water. Fish the holes with live bait and lures. have caught all the normal creek fish in good numbers. I've never caught a barra here yet, but have seen others catch them. Have caught bagfuls of big flathead and bream in some of the holes, some only half the size of a tennis court. Mobs of whiting and salmon in the main channel. A top spot

A mob of netters hit yellowpatch big-time and supposedly they do it for seaworld
the place gets raped dry before they head up to Corio for a repeat raping
it takes a while until the system recovers
if you get there before they do then there are barras, jacks whiting flatties, queenies and salmon
plus the reefies and mackerel just out around hummocky (we use a 4.6 and 4.8)

are you referring to the yellow patch estuary that you take your trailcraft up?

Yeah Jack. There is a fair channel if you follow the sandbar on your right up past the main sand dune. I don't think that you would have any problem in a 4.6. I always get out and walk up the creeks but, only fishing out of the boat when there is no sand left to stand on.

    Re: Curtis Island--- Yellow Patch

Hey Anthony. The trip around the front is always a carefully planned one. If you can jag a good patch of weather you will be fine. If you are loaded up with camping gear just take it easy. And know how the boat handles fully loaded.

The bar is best tackled at high tide if you can plan to be there on the incoming tide with a light northerly is the best.

Once your in the creek it's not trouble.
