mud delivers again after a LOT of persistence....

    hi all.

been a busy few days and not much sleep. Friday ericcs came out for a mud run and it was pretty quiet. the deadstick caught a fish in the low 50's? (didn't measure or photograph) and it was the only keeper. eric got smashed by a +70 and after chasing it for a bit it found some coral and that was that.

Saturday morn I took an afo fella out and couldn't manage a legal all morning and not even a decent hit.

looked at the report and decided to get back out Saturday night. slept on the eastern side in between feeding rays and sharks cuttlefish. lost a couple of big hitters round the motor - at least 1 was a ray. slept in as I was cactus from 3 long days straight and then moved to the nw where there were only 2 boats. the eastern side was a car park. rosco dropped by for a hello and headed for moreton. 10 minutes later and I was smashed. this fish takes the record for most line stripped in 1 run. over 150m in the water and down to the backing! and then dropped it just like that... I was spewing, fearing my fish for the day was done. I persisted anyways and an hour later put a 55 in the box. kept drifting for a while and the weather was pretty ordinary by now so decided to call it a day. headed back to the eastern side (only 4 boats left there now) and thought I would just do a drift or 2 and go home. started where I had been feeding cuttlefish to the vermin during the night and second cast gets a good hit. fish put up a good battle and I was calling it for a +70 and was quite surprised to see him come in at 68. had to weigh it at home as he was quite fat and he came in at a fraction under 4kg. quite happy to leave after that. did get a couple in the low 40's too but they went back for mossy

Mate you are doing well all about the Mud - is it technique or local knowledge on the spots?

    Well done again!
    Cheers

lol. I could tell you .... but then I would have to kill you. I am lousy at keeping secrets. the last time I went to spot x I was grumbling to myself about the 3 other boats at my spot. when the sun came up I realised they were all blokes I had told. my avatar motto says it all - patience, persistence and PLASTIC. I have only fished for bay snaps for the last 4 years but I have put in over 4000 hours in that time so I guess some local knowledge is probably applicable too.

I was out there as well for the first half of the run out last night with 16yo son. On the east side car park. I think one of the other ausfishers was near me in a blue hull inboard. I thought about yelling out a roll call for ausfishers in the area, but thought I would come off as a nutter .

We came home with 4 squire. Only small in the 40's, but the plan as to go out there for a few hours and come home with dinner, so job accomplished. I love being out there when it is flat and peaceful. After no trips out for 2 years, now 2 in 2 weeks. I'll be back.

nice effort again dave, i was out there also and my mate had the same thing happen except his fish kept going taking the backing and all nearly ripping the rod from his hands! makes you wonder
Dad reckons fishing is 10% brains and 95% muscle, the rest is just good luck.

I was the most northern boat on the eastern side playing acdc (softly) and from which some snoring may have been heard.
