60cm and 40cm flatties on plastic from the Pin and bream

    Hi all,

Took the boys out yesterday nice and early. Pin was really nice. Oyster Leases near Pimpima Rvr - eldest son scored a nice 40cm flattie from the mangroves but flicking zman curly tails on Barry (Dayoo) jig heads. He saved up and bought a Caynin overhead and flicks lures with accuracy. It paid off and he was stoked - first fish on a plastic. Few more hits and misses for both boys. Around to a good spot near a run out inlet to a main channel - anchored up and lets the windlass pay out to get us over a lot of ground near the bank and mangroves - tide working for us. My boy who scored the 40cm was certain that a lizard would be living under a mangrove base that was growing out of a sand bank just above the water. It was a good call and we stayed for 10-15 casts until he must have hit the thing on the head with a Gulp flick bait and he is on! 60cm flathead later.

Both boys got some nice legal bream and a few that were 23 and were returned gently. They had a ball and the old man got to enjoy a great day on the water and the sound of the 115 2 stroke at 63kph on the way back which is always good.

Some bream fillets and flathead battered up tonight!

    Cheers

PS. I am convinced that flat head are easier to catch on plastics, but I am not convinced about bream. We hit an area in prime bit time with a variety of plastics and styles of retrieve on light gear with some touches but no hook ups. The same spot yielded plenty of bream dead sticked on bait...I think out water quality is not clear enough to get them going.Click image for larger version.

Well done mate, bet the young fella was stoked.

Agree flattys are easier on the plastics and bream tuffer. But quality of fish is better too.
