    warning to galaxys2 users

hi all. thought this might help someone? my phone died yesterday. it was playing up a couple of weeks back. charged but other than that usb connection didn't work. no internet for the lap top and no cable file transfer. also didn't like turning off and just kept re-starting. looked on line for a solution and found the problem - moisture in the usb slot slowly corroding it's way in. apparently not uncommon problem. the fix was a scrub with a small wire brush and I sprayed some lanotec in there too. got my connection back but only for a week. then I took it to a repair joint and paid $20 to be told it was stuffed. all up it lasted 14 months and maybe it's time in the salt air sped things up but I don't believe I ever got water in there. so keep an eye on your usb ports or spray them with something now and then and if you get any of these symptoms - back up your phone! I didn't and am starting from scratch again...

http://www.otterbox.com/ : these guys make awesome water proof cases. I always take my phone on the water in a snappy bag.

I think the salt in the air could have caused your issues Dave. I've never herd of any issues like this with a G2.

Store the phone a zip loc bag with rice or silica gel packs inside while your out fishing. Never have that issue again.

phone is always stored in a dry box on the boat when not in use or wrapped in a rag when plugged in to charger. have replaced with a galaxy ace which has a slide cover over the usb port which I think will help to start with.

hey Julian. think it was the air. when I did a search of the symptoms I was surpised at the number of respondents quoting the same problem.

My S2 dropped out of my pocket on the beach and landed screen side down onto the wet sand after a wave had gone out and it still works great. just wiped it off and went straight back into my pocket. I still upgraded it to the new S4 though!

Then your solution is an otter box or snappy bag. Word of warning, the otter cases are quite bulky. I'd recommend only using it when fishing.

These are a good idea. Keeps your boat license, SIP. wallet, car keys, moby, etc. dry and clean. You can hear the moby ring ( between yahoo's ). They have a seal under the lid and clip lock.

tim. I don't cheat on taxes. I don't even minimize by running via a company or family trust. I am a sole trader and pay the same rate of tax as anyone else on the same income. I will claim only 10% of my phone as work related as the balance is private use.
