Thread: Another buggered antenna.

  1. #1

    Another buggered antenna.

Just wondering if anyone would know what may be causing my antennas to stop working.

I've got a Garmin 4010 chart plotter that originally came with a Garmin GPS17X antenna and over the Christmas period it stopped picking up satellites. I replaced the 17X with a 19X, without replacing the cable and up until yesterday it worked fine.
So essentially I've gone through 2 external antennas in less than 6 months.......coincidence or something else afoot with my my electronics?
They're linked to my plotter via NMEA2000.
    No fuses are blown.
    Backbone connections are all good.
Connections on back of 4010 are all good.
4010 does not recognize anything linked to it via NMEA2000.
Cable from the antenna to the backbone was not replaced.

So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them or conversely if anyone knows of a mob that are mobile and can come out to diagnose this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Might be better of with a small Lowrance HDS unit mate. I just happen to know where you may get one. A bottle of rum should see you walk away with it
