"Dad, can you come and watch me play footy? I got picked to play in a carnival for school"
"Sure, what day is it?"
"Thursday"
So after arranging with my boss to have Thursday off I was chatting with the missus Wednesday night and asked what time I have to have the young fella at the footy. "8:30am, but it's not till next week"
Well, I already had the day off so straight to the shed and prep the tinny.I had heard reports of jewwys and threadys being caught in the passage so rigged up to chase some. Up at 3;30am launched at 4am and was casting by 4:15am. Nice still morning with only a light breeze. Tide was on the run out with low expected around 7am. There was a fair bit of surface action with what I thought to be mullet but also turned out to be tarpon too I think. Not a lot of action in the first hour but just as the sun light winked on the horizon I had a hit on my 100mm squidgy. In comes a 47cm soapie. Nice bit of fun on the 6lb braid!
Fished the same spot for a couple of small bream but no more jewwys so I headed south for a flatty or two. Cruised down to a spot I have been eyeing off and thought I would give it a shot. There was no boat traffic on the water at all and I felt really confident I would get a fish in this spot. I wasn't disappointed, 1st cast a nice flatty comes boatside! Yessss!![]()
Cruised around the general area until the battery ran out for the iPilotEnded up with 3 nice flattys for the table. Put a few back too.
On the way home I pulled up at the jew hole and scored a couple more bream and also hooked up to a good sized tarpon that put on a fantastic aerial display before snapping me off at the boat! Heap of fun. The rain started around 10am so I cruise up towards Bells, threw a line it at the mouth, in comes another flatty. Let him go, I had enough for now.
Came home, filleted the fish, cleaned up the tinny and took the missus out for lunch.
Top day on the water!!![]()
