Squiddies

I trolled up 3 arrow squid this morning on hardbodies off Scarby whilst trolling for snapper. All squid were about 20-25cm tubes.
Caught the first one and threw it back thinking I wont get any more for a feed, then second then the third.

Going to grab an old deep diver and glue some squid jags on the back to see how it goes.

Does anyone know of squid on the Gold Coast. I used to catch heaps when I lived in WA and they don't seem to be as prolific on the Goldy. Any help would be awesome.

Bag limit in NSW is 20 mixed squid/cuttlefish. Being the best bait and eating creature in the ocean QLD should follow in stead and put a bag limit in place. I can just see some people taking a ridiculous amount and stockpiling them for the purpose of bait only . Sure keep a couple but no need to go overboard right!

Shorncliffe Jetty is good but i havent been down for a couple of years - nice place to try if your just starting out. On that note can anyone tell me if the jetty has re-opened or is it still closed with the wood rot? - I hope the council decides to fix it its a great place for a bit of a quiet fish

Bag limits are a good idea......and that's all it is.......an idea.
If they don't actively enforce the rules, they might as well not be there.

I impose a personal limit of 10. That's not because of some green desire to feel all warm and fuzzy about conservation, it's because I don't want to spend any longer than 1hr cleaning my catch. I keep the hoods for dinner and use the heads for bait......waste not want not.

When are we going wags? Havent heard any reports from the bay of late. But the last 2 months we have had big squid come up to the boat at the gneerings at moololaba. Which have taken baits whole pillys small sweetlip etc over a squid jig. they come up to the led flood lights. Over moreton should be going good atm. With the water clearing up Ive found personally start and end of the tides works best. Easier to keep the jigs near the bottom in a slow current.
