That's what I was looking for poppers, but none on the shelf, guess that says some thing, went for the closest thing....

Jeez they are good looking blokes in that video... All those fish were on squidgeys.

Jewienewie, a 2oz jighead, super glue and a big paddle tail will see you in the right direction. They'll take most things if you put it in front of them. Squidgeys are popular, but i've watched blokes pull them on everything from gulp jerk shads to pilchards to hardbodies. I got one on a 40g raider chasing tailor one day.

Squidgey has changed the mold that the 130mm fish were made in. It's a bit skinnier in the body than it was. They've also slightly changed the colour of the plastic. Still seems to work ok though. But thay can be a little bit hard to find at the moment.

New to using plastics for jew,
Had good sucess with flat head and have used them before but never for Jew. Any tips on retrieval of the placcy. Slow wind, up and down, flat knacker or all of the above if not getting any hits....

Have a look at the Mcarthy range of lures. They make a range of shads in the 4,5 and the big 6in. Make some great colours. The tail action on these lures is awesome and has a wicked body roll as well. Slow rolling the bottom or slow hops usually does the trick but theres no hard or fast rule with fishing mate so mix it up and see what they like on the day.

    Cheers Whytey

Jewynewy...best advise I can give you is to go and catch a heap of live worms....put ur new plastic things in the bucket with the worms....put about 6 worms on your hook...pick out your plastic things and throw it as hard as you can into the centre of the water....notice which way the wind takes it....now simply cast your worms out to where the plastic berley ended up.

    Gotta Love Maroochydore.

Does it have to be 6 worms and what type of bucket, what if there is no wind....

Slow roll is most effective. Doesn't need to be right on the bottom. It needs to be where the fish are. They could be feeding anywhere in the water column. I tend to let it hit the bottom then slow roll back. Stopping about half way in to get it back down again. But if over rough country, i'll just start cranking straight away and bring it back in a metre under the surface. Both ways catch fish.

It makes me laugh the old bait fisho's who reckon their way is best. I've lost count how many times we've been pulling jew left right and centre and the blokes soaking bait are sitting there with their tongues hanging out. Not saying bait is wrong, it can be effective but it's certainly not the only way to catch fish.

I agree.. It makes me you laugh.

With saying that, I have been down the seaway a few times when old mate using livies and an Alvey pulls fish after fish, meanwhile we can't raise a hit... It is a strange game.

Should it be a plastic bucket GH?

If you want to catch jew on lures, honestly the best advice I can give you is to spend some time in recognised big jew hotspots. From where you are you've a couple of excellent options. While there, look for the blokes who are spinning with big lures and go and say hello. Talk to them and be friendly without being a pest. Watch what they are doing. Where I fish the regulars are friendly and it's pretty quickly obvious who the keen jew fishermen are and who is there to just dangle a line. You don't need special gear, but a good strong rod and a reel capable of holding at least 300yds of 30lb line is advisable. Once you figure out how it works, you'll find your catch rate may improve. I know mine certainly did. Jew are a predator and will hit a lure with gusto. They'll also be really timid and just tap at it and stretch the tail of a rubber making it really frustrating. It's addictive and exciting when you find them chopping on the surface like tailor. Good luck.

I've caught plenty of Jew on soft plastics around Yamba NSW. And I back the success SPs can deliver. But I understand the bait argument. Where I live near Yeppoon in Qld we often get a seasonal run of Black Jew on the inshore reefs and headlands. Try catch one of these on a soft plastic. You just can't do it. For some reason they are only ever caught on bait. Many people try but I'm yet to find anyone to get a Jew around here on a SP. Perhaps no one has worked it out yet, but too this point they are a bait only option

Thats the advice i would follow. The guys that helped nezivic99 with his jewie quest have forgotten more about jewfish fishing than most of will ever learn.

If you want to catch one get out there and watch and learn and be respectfull.
