    Suzuki Engine Cover Question ?

So last engine DF140 The Hains Group supplied a Genuine Engine cover for $450
New Engine DF200 rather than bend over I bought a Genuine Suzuki cover Ex USA for $80 + $30 postage.
The OZ one had a mesh section for intake port the USA model is full canvas with no Mesh screen for Intake.
Has anyone ran a Full Canvas cover on Outboard Leg or is this the Norm ?
    cheers

Re: Suzuki Engine Cover Question ?

I would wonder if the US one is for use when the engine is running or not. The "Genuine" Suzuki item is actually an Outboard Covers Australia product - I have the cowl cover plus the full cover for my 175. The difference is when you want to order it from O.C .A with the Suzuki logo they will direct you to Haines to order it with a Suzuki part number. The price difference when I got mine was not worth bothering about so I got the "Genuine" one and as explained to me by the Haines guys it meant that in the event of any form of warranty claim because it is fitted with "Genuine" covers there would be no issue.

FWIW I am VERY happy with the product - I had the same thing fitted to the last outboard on my old boat since new and the outboard still looked like a new one ten years later when I traded it in.

I checked some time ago re the US cover, and they are not for use with the engine running, unfortunately. So, unless that has changed.......
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

    Dick,

the one from the US is a storage cover only, not a splash cover, it does not have the mesh in the back of it and it is a very light material. I know cause I bought one, basically useless unless you do long term storage.

Been using my US cover for over 2 yrs on the DF 175, no problem so far and have not been told to take it off when running the motor.Maybe better to remove it from now on and get the aus version.

Thx ML I did think that still worth the effort as the Haines job fades quicker than a night with a hooker.

Something doesn't gell, I got one for 150hp Yammaha 4 stroke from the yammie dealer for the same price that OCA quoted and it was about $100 cheaper than what is being quoted for a Suzzi, sounds like Haines are making a bit of money out of the deal or have the prices gone up that much.

When I got mine for the DF175 OCA would not sell it to me with the Suzuki logo on it. Had to go through Haines price was about the same - not a problem if you dont want the Suzuki logo on it though.

I don't see that many covers south of the border, do many use them up there?

You do see quite a few mate - they are a worthwhile investment if you ask me, they protect the cowl from the sun as well as sinkers/mates/kids
