Land Based Moreton Island September - Help

    Hi all,
I have just booked a week on moreton in September - staying at tangalooma. I am not taking the boat over and thought I would try my luck at beach / land based fishing.
can you please advise what would be a good target fish for this time around there, what sort of rigs to use / baits etc?

    any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

M8, I came across these vids on Brownies Coastwatch Vault some time ago....might be worth watching.

Just scroll down to "TANGALOOMA FLATHEAD" & "FLICKING FOR FLATHEAD"

I haven't fished Moreton for too many years but from Tangalooma there is good flathead to the south a bit... last time I was there there was trees down in the water a couple hundred meters to the south and it was simply a matter of flicking the lures out amongst the sticks and pulling the flatties out.... there is always the jetty too if you are still allowed to fish it as the end of the jetty is in some good deep water and I have seen some good fish come in from the jetty itself... other than that there is good fish pretty much all along the beaches so you should not go home empty handed
If you get to the other side of the island there will be tailor at the rocks by now too... the biggest tailor I have ever caught was off those rocks... the sweep runs from south to north until it hits the rocks at the light house and then it does a right turn and heads out to see.. drop a pilly on gang hooks into the gutter just as it turns and you will find some nice fish waiting.

    Good luck

Mtx are you going to have a 4bee? Im over there after many years away from Oz in July/August specifically targeting Tailor and i am very rusty after living in the UK for the last 14 years. I have recently posted asking for some advice on targeting Tailor.

If you go south of Tangalooma there is a place on the map called shark spit along there used to be good for flatties. On the outside we always fished from little sandhills up to Rous battery and was always good from memory, tailor/dart have seen Jew pulled in from there as well. Also i have caught some nice fish in the past from Readers point to short point and in "the timbers" beware of incoming tides there though have personally pulled in a nice golden trevally there when i was just a lad!

Have fun and ill post what i get (im over on the 20th July or there abouts then again in early August before heading back to the UK).
