Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre
I will be doing the Black Dog Ride to the red centre on August 17th. The ride is to help raise funds and awareness to combat depression and suicide.
I have set up a fund raising page to try and raise some funds for Life Line who are the main charity for the ride.
Please give a few dollars if you can.
You can donate at https://redcentre2013.everydayhero.com/au/SteveBrown
You can find out more about the Black Dog Ride and the great work they do at http://www.blackdogride.com.au/

Re: Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre
Help me help others by supporting me on the Black Dog Ride to The red Centre
WHY?
The suicide rate in Australia equates to one death every four hours, or six per day
Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australia for men under 44 and women under 34
On average, 40 Australians take their (own) lives every week
Men are four times more likely to die by suicide than women
It is estimated there is a suicide attempt every ten minutes in Australia
80% of all suicides in Australia are by men
Rural communities are the most heavily effected areas
Depression is the third largest individual health problem in Australia after heart disease and stroke
One in five Australians will experience a mental illness every year
In the work place depression accounts for six million working days lost each year
Mental illness is a leading cause of disability in Australia
Depressive disorders are the most common identifiable risk factor for suicide
About Black Dog Ride
Black Dog Ride is an independent organisation founded by Steve Andrews in 2009, whose mission is to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention
The Ride to the Red Centre is a week - long motorbike ride to Alice Springs to raise awareness and funds for depression and suicide prevention
All fundraising from the ride via donations goes directly to Mental Health First Aid Australia and Lifeline Australia
Mental Health First Aid will be using the funds to train Black Dog Riders in each state and territory as Mental Health First Aid instructors
Lifeline will be using the funds for building their Online Crisis Support Chat service
Black Dog Ride has raised over $800,000 for mental illness in Australia since its inception in 2009

Re: Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre
Hi All as you may have been listening to news stories over the past several days Mental Health has been in the headlines again we still have the big issues of PTSD with Military personnel and several have unfortunately taken their own life recently imagine how this affects their family and colleges we also seen Anthony Field (the blue wiggle) talking out about depression.
I guess the question that comes out of this is how we can help or what can we do, thats where the Black Dog Ride comes in by donating you know that the money is going directly to organisations that are actively providing support for everyone in the community.
All it takes is $20 from each or more if you can afford it, we pay this amount for a coffee and Lunch at times so donate 1 coffee and lunch to the cause and see the difference you can make.
BLACK DOG RIDE to the RED CENTRE, this year we are supporting the Fantastic work of 2 brilliant services.
One is LIFELINE AUSTRALIA and the fantastic service with their online crisis support service. Lifeline Australia will direct its share of funds raised during the Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre (50%) to building the Online Crisis Support Chat service. This free and confidential support service is available to any one in crisis right across the nation.
Also MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID AUSTRALIA MHFA Australia will be using their share of the funds raised by the Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre (50%) Mental Health First Aid instructors so that communities Australia wide benefit from enhanced awareness of mental health problems and increased capacity to support people developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
So help me out to raise as much money as i can to help these 2 much needed community services doesnt matter what state you are in the money goes back into the community so get on board.

Re: Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre
I will be heading off on the Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre tomorrow morning. http://www.blackdogride.com.au/view/redcentre-2013
I have set up a web page to track Winston the mascot that will be on my bike.
Go to http://www.whereswinston.com/
You can also find links there to donate and help out the cause as well as links to teh Black Dog Ride shop where you can buy a Winston of your own and help get the conversation started.
Thanks so far to all those that have shown support and/or donated
Thanks to GoGPS for the donation of the tracking device. If you want to keep track of your boat, car or motorbike I can highly recommend the installation of one of their trackers. Especially handy if your pride and joy is stolen.
Go to http://www.gogps.com.au
Thanks also to Brisbane Marine for their assistance with modifications done to the bike. http://www.brismarine.com.au/
