I must have missed the BCF special because at that price, like Johcarr I would be happy to install a second unit, I would probably see if I could get another bracket and power cable for the unit and mount the second transducer extra bracket and powere supply in the tinnie and that way I can always use one of the units in the tinnie, rather an effective way to go it seems.
BCF have them on special until the end of this month or until sold out.

Green zones are not shaded on G2 charts.

Have you got rid of them all yet mate?

Can you tell me if the new 751 sounder would be as good or better than the furuno fcv585?

Space is my issue and I want a 1kw tranny

    Cheers Dave

    Dave,

Where particularly are you having the space issue - is it the height to the screen, width or what.

With a bit of aussie inginuity I came up with a way to fit the 587 on my Quintrex when I thought I would have an issue with height to the screen. As it's mounted it now it has a lower height than the 627. In fact, I've been able to mount the 587 and the 750S on the Quintrex.

I can take some pics if your interested.

    Cheers.

    HI,
yeah mate I'm keen to see how you done it for sure.. my issue is I will be able to fit either a 750 or 587 into the dash and then the other one on top of the dash but still protected by the windscreen, its just going to reduce my vision a great deal thats all.. I could probably live with it but if I can get around it even better.

are you running the 2 units off the one transducer or only have one sounder??

    Cheers Dave

Re: Another post on what chart plotter to buy.

Both of mine are mounted on the dash. I have different seats/pedestals that have raised the seating position so vision is not a problem.

My install is not yet complete - I have bought and am actually going to run ( I think) 3 transducers. A TM260 and P66 for the 587 (plug and play as it is dash mounted) and another P66 for the 750s, as I wouldn't mind trying to run both sounders simultaneously.

Do you have any pics of your dash?

Re: Another post on what chart plotter to buy.

Few pics of the 587 instal. Basically I converted it to a panel mount using starboard backing and the made up a starboard base. Then used bimini fittings and tubing to create the mount points. The bimini fittings use thumb screws for easy removal and a very solid base for minimal cost.

Removing the bulky base means a lower height. I also gained further height reduction by overlapping it over the dash panel so I could lay the unit further back to obtain a perfect angle from my seating position. Still plenty of room with the Garmin which uses its standard bail mount base.

Wiring in the switches at the moment.

    Yeah ok, nice work..

I like the bimini brackets idea.

I couldn't do the same as my dash is allot higher. I have the room but it will just block my view.. Im starting to lean towards dash mounting the 587 and using what is currently there and a small stand alone gps until it dies which wont be long and replacing it with another small garmin unit.. at the end of the day I'm not sure a large screen gps will be worth losing so much view for and wondering how much difference a large screen would make anyway?

How did you post pictures I was trying to work out how to do it?

Also do you find any con's to using a TM transducer? and was it hard to set up correctly?

I currently have in hull but its not an easy option for a 1kw to suit a 587.

I haven't fitted the transucers yet so I can't speak from experience.

    Regarding uploading pictures:

Click on go advanced below the bottom right hand corner of the quick reply screen.
    Scroll down to manage attachments
click on add files in top right hand corner
    click select files
locate the picture file on your computer or web hosting server and double click
    click on upload files
the pic file may go into your folder or both your folder and the lower attachment folder
if it only goes into your folder then drag it to the lower attachment folder which is the folder associated with your post on the forum. Write your post in the dialogue box and add your reply.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Another post on what chart plotter to buy.

Sorry about the picture's, they are from when I bought the boat and I'm away working so I cant take more at the moment,

the little joystick to the right in the first picture is going as its not used anymore,
I am now thinking of removing the garmin that is there and fitting the 587 into the dash where it is and re-fitting the little garmin on top of the dash and using it solely at a gps as I cant really see that losing my view is worth having a big screen gps anyway??

    what does everyone think?

also do you all think that the 587 is really better then all the newer fishfinders with churp?

I just hate buying something and then wishing I bought something else?

    Cheers Dave

Re: Another post on what chart plotter to buy.

    Dave,

Pitty about the location of the gauges. In any case I would panel mount the 587 next to your gauges. I would then either move the garmin above the 587 using the bail mount bolted to the face of the panel, or alternatively ram mount the garmin to the right hand side corner on an angle above your cup holder. The beauty of the ram mount is that you can adjust it to get the best compromise.

A 587 and garmin 740s might be able to be stacked on top of each other (perhaps still using the bail mount on the 740s) without compromising your vision too much as the 740s would appear to have a lower overall height than your current garmin which would almost seem to be the size of a 587.

The chirp sounders look great but at the end of the day are they going to catch you any more fish?

I prefer the structure scan sounders but am dubious about the longer term reliability of the lowrance and simrad stuff.
