    First Time at Hutchies

    Gday fellas,

I am considering heading out to hutchies this weekend for the first time. I am just after a bit of info of the area and anything to stear clear of ( shallow water, tidal flow, possible hazards ) i have been meaning to head out there for a fair while but never got organised.

I get around in a 4.5m Brooker side console. I understand my boat isnt the biggest nor is it the flashiest but i have been small boat game fishing for a fair part of my fishing life ( wolf rock, Stanage bay, maroochydore and the Goldy) so i am expierienced enough to know when to get out of a tricky situation.

Anyway fellas any info of the area will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a Bunch!

Look for the other boats.... steer clear of boats with angry punters on board.....Species to be caught - YTKingies, Snapper, Mackeral, Wahoo, billies, and Grinners.

Some starter marks for you. Search around (east of) these marks to find the bait.

Yep look around those marks, you should find fish.Be mindful of western banks it can get rather shallow on the low. Its also a 45-50km trip out there, depending where you launch from. The bay can get rather unpleasant, so check the weather before you go.

I never anchor there these days and drift softies if there is a clear area without upsetting people at anchor. But if I were to anchor I would use a fairly light guage coral anchor which will straighten as there have been a few guys who gave up getting their anchors back. Some feral wrecks down there that eat anchors for breakfast.

Yes, I am one who donated my anchor to the wrecks......... I learnt after that. Don't anchor.

    Hi Guys,

I have dived Hutchies several times as well as the surrounding areas. There are no wrecks at Hutchies to my knowledge, the closest wreck that I know of is the Cementco which is east of Hutchies. Please let me know if I am wrong. The bottom at Hutchies is big boulders and a lot of ledges on the outside of the shoal.

    Hope this helps.
