    Re: c-map,blue chart,navionics????????

I have a garmin chart, before that a navionics gold, my old man runs a c map. IMO the garmin and navionics charts are better for detail and contour interval than c-map.

My old navionics chart was more accurate than my current garmin in terms of it being an accurate representation of the actual bottom. In my experience the garmin charts although great have a bigger imagination than navionics.

    That's my experience anyway.

The latest C-map has more detail from a navigational point of view. Navionics more detail from the contour/ fishing point of view. The C-map bathymetric charts have the most contours if bought separately (used in dual slot plotters is brilliant with standard C-map). Garmin locks you into their own brand. The other 2 give you a choice of plotters.

By navigational I mean the markers and close in obstructions. Fished side by side for 10 days late last year with the latest C-map and navionics, once we got out deep the navionics seems better. Didnt show any where near the bombies/ obstructions in close as C-map. Once combined with the bathymetric chart C-map was heaps better. Unfortunately the cost is double(need 2 cards).

Cost wise I think the Navionics is best value as it gives you a good choice of quality brand plotters.

I have extensively used all of these and a lot of contour lines especially as you get further ou are imaginary. My old cmap c card told very few lies although missed some areas but then the navionics and blue chart also miss these areas but add beautiful contours all over the place even though nothing is there. The navionics platinum does have some really nice features and I would go for it again although I have only used this chart on hds 10 gen2 with fish and chips and 3d chart it is very nice. But honestly every one of them is an awesome bit of gear.

Looking at it the wrong way around for mine. Pick the plotter you prefer rather than picking a plotter based on the maps. There will be little real practical difference between charts - there will be differences in detail - but during use will it make that much of a difference?

For mine I love my Garmin plotter and find it much easier/intuitive to use than other brands I've used in the past. That preference to functionality far outweighs any perceived deficiency with a chart there might be (not that I've found any deficiencies in the garmin charts).

Find which plotter you like best and your decision will be made.
