the weather was awesome today!!! the ironic thing was though (after intalling my bait tank) the bait reef was patchy with some really good shows of bait here and there.. Do you think i could get one on the bait jig!! i have never ever ever had a drama catching a few yakkas or slimies but today they jut wanted nothing to do with us. There was another boat close by and they were having the same dramas.. Wasted enough time so headed out to my other bait spot in 28 meters that usually never fails as well.. nothing again!!! off comes the bait jigs and on clips the laserpros.. got to the edge of the reef and within 5 minutes of puting the spread out one reel screams off.. it took heaps of 15kg and then decided to thrash its head about on the surface, i thought it was a little black for a minute but then i got to see it side on from about 50 meteres away and it looked like a wahoo or a spanish. It spat the hooks anyway (how do they do that?)
Two passes later and the same rod and same lure gets belted again. this fish i actually got to within 3 or 4 meters under the boat. Spannish of at least 15kg. same thing just as im about to have it gaffed it spits the hooks!!!! A few sware words got spoken..
Checked the hooks and they are razor sharp i can only assume it won it freedom by a quick change of direction and the line went slack for a split second... Anyway was an awesome day two great runs but no fish.
