    Question rusty spark plug

i bought a 15 hp mercury jap model brand new in the end of 2011 and so far feel as if i have bought a dud, within 3 months of buying it a crack appeared in the section below the cowling! i brang this to attention at my local service shop and they fixed it under mercurys warranty, but within 4 months i had a crank seal blow and roughly 3 months to fix!!! was shattered and now i think water is geting into my top cylinder.... i went out for a quick camp trip 4 weeks ago and on the return the motor was hesitant to get to wot and a bit lumpy. i thought it was some dirty fuel and didnt think much of it went home flushed the engine and even ran it dry of fuel because i knew i wouldnt use it for a couple of weeks. last weekend decided to go for a trip to the pine launched the boat and the motor wouldnt turn over ? f*** must have it it gear,,, knock it in and out of gear nope.. gave it another couple of pulls and on the 2nd she turned over hmmm wtf get it going after 7 or at cracks when it normaly takes 2-3 but was running really bad probably at 60% power and a really weird sound coming from the general area of the pullstart thing... almost a whining noise pulled the pin straight away and off home. once home pulled the plugs and the spark plug on my top cylinder is all rusty and also a line of salt and minor corrosion where the head meets the bores if they are correct names? what are your thoughts and opinions? atm im a bit worried to ring the marine shop for them to tell me that this wont be covered under warranty ?

    Re: rusty spark plug

If your warranty is two years then you should be covered. If the dealer is closed for the Easter break then ring them first thing Tuesday.
I would squirt some oil into both cylinders through the plug holes & turn the engine over a few times with the plugs out to spread it around. Could be a head gasket issue.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

warranty is 3 years but would this issues be covered under warranty and what would cause the head gasket failure let alone the crack and crank seal?
