    Snapper session - totally nuts!

Tried to do too much today and the hope to have a day fishing was on the back burner, at least until I had attended to Saturday morning list of things I wanted to get done. Even got up at 6.30am to drill a post hole and then concrete a coppers log in. ( hit shale and rock, 2hours to dig a hole for Petes' sake!) That done, down to the shops, pick up new glasses, join the line up at the post office....

Looking at the wind prediction all week it was supposed to blow 20knots in the morning and then ease up, so I was in no hurry, I was still undecided, had not rung any deckie to join me, a solo trip once in a while is good therapy anyway.

Hit the water 12.30pm, mucked around at Potts point for a while for one under, but beaut conditions, who cares, I'm lovin this, just me, my boat, my custom jigheads, any soft plastic you could possible own in shopping bag full, 100 hours to burn since the service on the donk in January, and nobody else fishing my little part of paradise. I rang the wife to tell her I am settled into fishing and OK - she always appreciates a call home when I get there if I am alone.

Almost to the second I hung up the iphone, the wind picked up from the north and conditions at Potts point became very ordinary. So Zip over to Peel island and see what I can find....... The Yalta punched square into the slop which was by now, starting to get around .5 mtr with white caps, but whip the motor up to 5000rpm and she was skipping over them. All good! I get to my honey hole in record time and start fishing. Nothing on the sounder but wait.... a nudge, a hit and I am on. Pull in a nice 50cm snap. Set up the dead stick in the other rod holder, start fishing again. Wow! Double hookup, bring one fish in at a time. 48, 57 cm. One more for my bag? Really? I've only been over here for about 60 mins with two drifts, and I only need one more fish? Into the 3rd drift, same again only this time when I lifted the dead stick the fish got agro. zzzzziiiiingggg Twang! Buggar! Pull the line in, keep fishing with the other rod. Whack! We're on again! In comes a 64cm fish. That's it! My bag so every fish from here on gets a photo and then released. I lost count. Reckon I bagged out 4 times over at least. Here is a photo of a 65cm released. And a mixture of the next few, got tired of smearing the iphone screen with fish slime, so kept catching fish and swimming them for a minute if they looked tuckered out.

Was the best afternoon fishing in a long time. Possible the best bay session ever. We are in for a good season fellas, get into 'em!

Are you sure you weren't using bait?

Looks like you go to a lot of trouble now with your own jig heads, Peter.

You thought I was pulling your chain when I said that didn't you mate? But I didn't notice the blubbers around probably chased away by all that rain.

This is true - I blame Dayoo for that.. Kudos all goes to Barry, fussy as he is over the quality of the finished product - the proof is in the pudding!

It didn't seem too bad MM, the colour wasn't the milky tea I saw on the way out, I must have found a good patch.

There is 3 in every crowd - The bait boys anchored nearby nearly had me inquiring if they had any fish yet and if they didn't they could place orders with me on the next drift... But I was getting a little too excited and didn't, kept releasing fish. Felt sorry I didn't have a deckie or SOMEBODY to share in the excitement, ah well, next time.

This was becoming my standard reply when asked about a fishing trip " Yeah, we got out, Rick got onto a couple of nice fish, but it was really slow and tough going for most of the day. Still nice to get out."

After this session it was - "every cast was either a fish boated or dusted on light gear, and I left them biting" . Happy? As a mate told me fishing like that is the best fun I can have with my pants still on. It will be remembered for a long time! ( the fishing)
