The excess cable for my VHF was neatly placed in a coil tucked away under & behind the helm.
You shouldn't have any problems with this method as long as it is neat, tidy & not overcoiled too tight.
My unit was fitted by the boys from SeaQuest.
Just installed a new antenna that comes with 5 mtrs of cable. Is it ok to just coil excess up and secure or should it be looped around boat? Radio is only about 1 mtr from antenna. Any advise appreciated.

LITTLE SKIPPER!
1. Any correct response will be dependent on the specific make/model of this antenna. This was not provided.
2. Some VHF antenna systems use the coax as the ground plane and suggest you first consult any installation guide (if provided) or contact the manufacturer directly.
as SatNav said and if you have excess cable figure 8 it, don't do long runs along other electrical cables
as I have learnt antenna's are not all equal too (big time)
