    Finally landed One

Ive been chasing bull sharks for the last couple days in logan with some success but never being able to set the hook.Last night fishing from 4.30pm to 8.30pm caught 5 big stinking catfish. Nearly had enough but though I've gone this long so I waited for the tide to turn. At 9.00pm I got a good hit and the line wasn't stopping any time soon after a few good long runs i thought to myself this is no catfish.Had a bit of trouble trying to net it by myself but luckily he swallowed the hook so he wasn't getting off any time soon.End result one happy Angler.

sorry pic from phone not best quality.

    Thanks Bron

I like ur efforts bronson. But i had a feeling it was illegal to "target" sharks in queensland?... maybe it was a nice bycatch to your target catfish... feel free to correct me if im wrong

Nah Brock, not illegal, you can take 1 shark up to 1.5m in length with exceptions being grey nurse, great white, saw fish and speartooth sharks. Bullies make for great sport and aren't too bad on the plate either.

Good on you for perservering, gotta love it when a plan comes together.

Just interested, do you eat them? If so what are they like? I've eaten plenty of cold water shark but not up this way...

yeah 1 bull shark per person and it has to be under 1.5m as Just_chips said above. Apparently from what I've read and heard bull sharks under 1meter taste good. Ill be the judge of that tonight I think.

Yep, caught a big one last Sunday and thought of keeping it for a bully. They ok to take home, freeze and use at a later date mate?

    Re: Finally landed One

Yeah, Funchy, they'll keep for months! Even years. Great bait.

Well done, Bronson. Next one you nab, try cut off the tail and head straight away, and you'll have an even better feed. What pound wire did you run for that girl? You can sometimes nab those models on 80/100lb trace, but quite often they'll chew through it.

Funchy yeah i freeze my bait then take it out about 5 hours before going seems to work fine and doesn't smell out the freezer to much. cuzzamundi I cut the tail straight off after i took a vid and a pic of it let it bleed out. Theve got a shit load of blood in em thats for sure. But yeah was using 2 rods one with 15lb braid the other with 25lb both running 2 foot of 40lb mono leader then to a 40lb nylon coated wire trace and a 6/0 circle hook.(by the way guys everyone ate the fish last night and for anyone who wanted to know it tasted quite nice just lightly beer battered and shallow fried.)

    Re: Finally landed One

you will get a lot more hits if you use a heavy mono trace and big circle hooks ive found I get more results this way pinning live bait through the nose on a big circle I fish under a balloon and when the shark strikes just let it run and the hook sets itself just about in the corner of the mouth everytime. You will loose a few however side by side mono trace to wire the mono always outfish's
