    Xmas trip to Agnes Waters/1770

    Hi all

Just booked a 2 week xmas holiday to Agnes Waters/1770 and was needing some info on the spieces of fish I can plan on tackling while up there. I will have the tinnie with so am pretty keen to hit the rivers and creeks looking for the main targets such as flatties, jacks, barra (Not targeted due to closure) muddies but I am also very keen on the land based game thing as I have heard of some pretty exciting fishing from the rocks chasing pelagics at that time of year. Any info or hits would be awesome

    Cheers

Hey mate, do a search for land based 1770 on here and have a read.

Top right hand side of pages you'll find ... Advanced Search icon. Work your way around that. Plenty of info.

1770... LBG.. if the weather smiles you will have a ball, the wind and swell just needs to play ball and you can catch most of the speedsters off the catwalk.. its a tough spot though if you can get past the sharks there is then the two big resident groupers to contend with. Spanish Mackeral, longtail tuna, Big GT's etc.
You will need a good quality spin stick and a ton of lures.. 85g raiders are the go along with some 190 laserpros and a few poppers. 50lb braid will give you your best chance of getting something past the hungry shark and grouper residents.

Second that on the sharks. They can be incredibly difficult to get past when they are in a frenzy at the CW. Make sure you fish with a mate as it could mean the difference between life and death should you fall in by accident. Its a great spot to fish, but like any LBG fishing off rocks, always air on the side of caution, watch what the water is doing for 10 minutes before going at it, and stay safe. Good luck.

another thing too i forgot.. the catwalk isnt the easiest spot in the world to get to.. you will need some decent shoes and a bit of rockclimbing experience also.. there is one part before the front ledge that you will need to negotiate.. its basically a big tree branch lodged accross a bit of a gutter that the water rushes through.. travel light. One spin rod a bunch of lures and a three piece gaff
