    Navionics new map cards

hi all - any one successfully running one of the new 2 GB SD type Navionics Gold XL/9 all of Aus or maybe Eastern Coast only etc in an older style Lowrance chart plotter or Combo Unit type LCX, LMS etc - there appears to be some conflicting statements as to if the newer bigger capacity 2gb navionics card can run ok in the older style Lowrance units as the older navionics cards that did run fine in these older units were all 1 GB SD card size

cheers and thank for any feed back

thanks for that thats the first thing i did - and they navionics are hedging there bets with the new 2 gb navionics cards and say they could work ok but wont guarantee that all bits on the new 2 gb cards will work ok in the older lowrance units which are programmed by lowrance to only read a 1 gb SD card and not a 2 gb card - there advice was its pretty much up to you to try it and see how it goes as it proabbaly should work - so hoping someone else has done it ok before me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes well thats what i thought too - so the attitude from the guy i spoke to at navionics was well we dont program the lowrance units lowrance do and it should and probably will work ok but we dont guarantee it in older LCX LMS type of units - but it certainly will work in a HDS gen 1 and gen 2 etc - my take is forget platinum cards as they really only work well in the HDS gen 2 and the new 2 gb gold card possibly would work in a lowrance older unit but the all of aus xl9 map may be a bit sus due to its total large file size - but a local area smaller content gold card such as the eastern coast cairns to coffs or rocky to tweed etc and other similar smaller file content cards may be ok - just would like someone else to be running one ok and have done it before i shell out the $ 260 - $280 to be a bit of a guinea pig

As long as the cards says SD and not SDHC should be OK, you could buy a blank SD card and check how much capacity the sounder will read to be sure . I was in Officeworks the other day and their not even stocking the 2 gb cards so you might have to shop around to buy one.
