    waterproof ipad cases

recently got an ipad 2 as they can view my gopro and also navionics apps, etc make it a super cheap chartplotter. w/10" screen

Has anybody done this yet or have a proper waterproof case for their ipad.
I am looking for recommendations on waterproof ipad cases.

And any apps for the boat or fisherman that are must haves.

just found out lowrance are doing wifi module to link your ipad to hds and turn ipad into a full blown HDS touch using lowance app. Just like having another hds touch unit connected, getting me one of these. simrad version already released($299). lowrance end of month.

The Navionics app gets slammed on iTunes reviews for lack of features and instability. The iPhone version is a bit mickey mouse as you can't set weigh-points and routes (as if these were necessary boating features!).

    Do you find it useful?

Setting waypoints is easy and you can save trails easy as well???

On the iphone that is, havent seen it on an ipad. I assume it would be the same

All I can say is expect to pay well over $100.00 for a REAL WATERPROOF Ipad case.
Beware you do not buy one that is only splash proof, if you want it to survive a dunking.

    G'day

Careful about the lifeproof cases, especially the fre for the iphone 5. Shocking case and beware of the ebay ones, I bought one there for retail price and iot was a fake (how did i know? no serial number on back of the retail box) and the speaker and microphones were not useable in the cases and the charge door fell to pieces.

The legit lifeproof cases also have had their majoy dramas, they're up top their 6th + generation to get it right. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...ht=fre&page=36

As for the ipad cases, look at otterbox defender and maybe soon armor (possibly an ipad version soon), anyting from incipo and griffin as well.

Is the defender waterproof or just splash proof?
There is on on that link I posted from a company called digital marine, have no idea but it looks the goods as it has been designed for boat use.

I only used otter box but it was splash proof only not sure if it was a defender.

    Re: waterproof ipad cases

Defender is shock and dust, not water. It may be splash proof to a point. A good shock and dust proof cover is usually spray/splash proof within reason. I've been using an android tablet in a good shock/dust cover in a ram mount for at least 18months now and going strong, copped some rain, some spashes, no worries. I carry one of those waterproof bags in case I really need it but usually just use it to store it in if i'm out overnight and worried about rain or even dew.

Best one I use is also a float (I hope) if it falls in. Works well.

    Glad Extra Large Ziplock bag.

Defender is shock... with splash and dust resistant. Look at the otterbox Armor they're releasing in 2 weeks. This one is waterproof.

Also at Griffins survivor + catalyst and incipo's Atlas both waterproof.

    Re: waterproof ipad cases

I've got one from a company called Digital Marine. Combined with a RAM mount to hold it securely.

This is the bit of the QR bracket that wraps around the case. It's pretty sturdy, all I can say about it until I can put it to the test on the water.

RAM ball can be mounted directly to the back of the case or to the QR bracket

My boat isn't on the water yet so I haven't used it in the field yet but it all goes together very well. Also got a Bad Elf GPS Pro, a Bluethooth GPS receiver made to work with Apple stuff. No jailbreaking needed.

I noticed one today at BCF at Riverlink Ipswich. Says fully waterproof and the photo has someone sitting in a pool with it half underwater.

    May be worth looking at

I like the old otter box for stuff onboard...but do yourself a favour and order in from o/seas. Tried to order from their aust site and 6 weeks later nothing...emailed and nothing back, rang and they said 3 weeks to make a total 9 weeks..cancelled it when it didnt arrive after those 3 weeks and they seemed shocked and didnt seem to understand why i cancelled and wanted a refund when it was "on its way". never again.

    Re: waterproof ipad cases

yep and third party sites selling otter box stuff are way cheaper overseas as well. Just bought myself a phone case from the US, even with delivery it was still $35 cheaper than the item on the AUS site.
