    Logan River crabbing session today

    Hi Fellas,
I thought I would post up a report today, mainly to comment on water conditions in the Logan after the flood but also a crabbing report.
Well Lucee gave me a call wanting to hunt some fish out deep (very deep, Ogglies of the deep ,,, deep) but the weather offshore wasnt favourable neither was the cover on my life insurance (even with the extra bilge pump he swore he would install)
So atrip to Olde Faithful the "Grogan", more commonly known as the Logan. I like the Logan as it is easily accessible and produces good fish it also is a great place to crab, so much so that I would almost guarantee a crab if you were to visit it now. Today was mainly about crabbing as Lucee hasnt got into them in SEQLD and I love my mudcrabs.
The river is currently still very silty, it has a slight fruity smell common with the flood that ripped through Brisbane a few years ago but the water level has reduced back to normal. We chose to use the Skinners Park ramp as Carbrook has recently disappointed me, prices up to $10 with no wash down facility and a muddy shitty ramp. The Carbrook ramp has recently been cleaned due to the floods and is in respectable condition. It is only 1 lane but lots of space and a pontoon to use when launching. The run down the river saw the mangroves covered in rubbish heavily scattered up to 2m high. The water is thich with silt and you cant see anything sitting 5cm under the surface. Thre is a low-moderate level of debris in the water mainly sticks but occasionally you come accross a big chunk of tree, enough to ruin a day out fishing so lots of care was taken when navigating the river.

Before I bore people too much....6 KEEPERS

I lost 2 pots today which really sux as I have invested in good quality $45 pots but I can honestly say they outfish other square pots, similar to the way PE Tackle works on the reef....
The debris in the water seems to pile up on the rope and drag it down leaving floats sitting in the water.

The pro's are out crabbing also and there appears to be many crabs around. We pulled one pot with 10 crabs, 2 were keepers but a good site. We re dropped the pot and pulled it 20 minutes later with more crabs and a big eel.

I would put some piccies up but we have all seen muddies 1cm over legal. No big trophy crabs but crabs all the same.

    Cheers

Well done guys. By the way you didn't happen to come across a 40ft pontoon in your travels. Ours was washed away in the flood but it would be a great score for someone as it was replaced brand new in 2011. No real dramas apart for the inconvenience of it not being there as it is covered by insurance. As you say there are plenty of just unders and heaps of jennies at the moment. Cant complain about a feed of muddies washed down with a few coldies. Sounds like a top day out and sure beats working.

    Cheers Mick

There is one near Carbrook ramp tied to a Red Front end loader but I dont think its 40ft, it also looks very new. Its in front of the house near the junction. We went right pout to the Pin and didnt see anything else Mick.

Captain Seaweed. You forgot to mention the "State of the Art' Driveway into the Carbrook boat ramp. Its well worth the $10 fee to use the ramp.

on ya marty and lucee. 6 muddies is a good feed. i had to settle for 1 the other day tho i am fairly sure others helped themselves before i got to them. my only keeper came from a pot that i had trouble getting to with the minn kota so most boats wouldn't go that shallow. that was out the mouth of tinny creek and there were plenty of pots. just dropped them out the front of hilliards this arv and hopefully do a bit better in the morning.
    cheers
