Looking at heading north for a couple of weeks, in a couple of weeks, but not sure where to go.
We'll be leaving Mackay, with our 5m Top Ender.
Thinking about fishing the Daintree Rvr and Endevour at Cooktown. The boats on the factory trailer so that rules out too much offroading.
What's ya thoughts, wherein NQ/FNQ is worth going to?

Hey Corry, you would have to have a go in the Hinchinbrook channel. I wouldn't be able to drive past there with a boat and not give it a go. If you go into Tully go see Roly at tackle world as he fishes there a fair bit and should be able to give you some good tips. That place should be firing now after all the rain.

have heard the Annan produces better crabs than the Endeavour, might be worth a shot when you're there check out the lure shop in Cooktown for info.

Haven't fished the mossman or saltwater in many years (but grew up fishing them) so can't comment on the ramps currently - but I think you will be at the very upper end of the size boat to fish either of them - both are very tidal dependant - remember getting my boat licence in the mossman at a dead low tide and we didn't have enough water to get on the plane......in a tinny..... Better fishing to be had at the daintree by far. As for staying at newell beach to fish the daintree - still a bit of a drive from there - better placed to stay at wonga for mine - pinnacle village is a decent spot. From a fishing standpoint I reckon you will have a better time spending a bit of time in each spot rather than trying to fish every river on the way north. Hinchinbrook, daintree, cooktown would be my picks - especially with that boat. Multiple options in each location as well - particularly if you jag some calm weather.
I think ya right Moffy, we shouldn't try to fit too much in. We're leaving Monday, so we're thinking we'll go straight to Daintree, we'll try and find somewhere closer than Newell, but with the hound coming along, it is proving difficult. Then we'll head up to Cooktown. We're planning a houseboat trip later in the year to Hinchinbrook, so will leave that one till then.

Well all plans have changed, due to not being able to find a cabin or accomodation that will allow pets, we're heading off to Karumba instead. Hinchinbrook will have to wait till the end of the year when we do our houseboat trip.

I thought Pinnacle Village park allowed pets? That's as close as you can get to the Daintree.

The fishing was dead everywhere last weekend but that's not such a bad thing as it should be picking up a bit now. There were some good fish about prior to this recent downturn.
Things are starting to heat up around Cooktown with the Barra and with a 5m boat you will get out the reef here no worries and there has been some cracker weather.
