    Garmin 5012

    I'm thinking about purchasing a Garmin 5012 and adding Bluechart G2 to it. I like the touch screen and the size. $2918.00 is the best price i can find in OZ so far.
    Questions;
    Is there a model just about to come out for similar $ and better?
    Opinions on the 5012?
    Opinions on Bluechart?

    Thanks,
    TMC

    Re: Garmin 5012

    I had a play with that and the 7012 at the boat show last year. The 5012 seamed like it lagged a lot and the 7012 was super quick. Have a look before u spend the big bucks...

    we have just bought garmin gear for new Origin boat, went the 7012 vs 5012 for the faster processing speed, putting radar & autopilot on as well, recon the 7012 was worth the extra as you can't just trade up after you have made the purchase if your not happy with the speed

    Re: Garmin 5012

    Hi Madcat,

    I have the 5012 Garmin and absolutely love it. I have no trouble with the speed. The touchscreen functions are a delight to use. Buttons are thing of the past. The 7012 has faster processing speed and can store 5000 waypoints compared to the 5012 at 1500 waypoints. For what I need I find the 5012 does the job and would recommend to everyone.

    Cheers

    I am also happy with my 5012, seems a nice unit and easy to use, never noticed a speed deficiency and does everything I need very well.

    Best bit of kit in the boat. They are great units, and are so easy to use.
    Let me know if you need any help with moving waypoints on to the machine. I have been through all the problems, so no need for others to do so. Reefmaster has the 5015, and also gave a very positive review.

    Re: Garmin 5012

    8000 series from Garmin was announced last week it the USA. Price drops on the 7000 series already happened there so should happen here soon enough. Might be worth waiting for a week or two.
