After advice on replacing tranducer coupled to my nss7. Mine just shat itself, but it was the tranny i used with the old sounder now 6 years old, generic 200/50. I fish offshore to 100m at the moment, looking to go further as opportunity arises....is the 200/50 the go or a 1kW sucker or the structure scan setup??

Basically structure scan will go to 90M deep (so the manual says), I'm sure the 50/200 or 1kw will be better in the traditional echo sounder setup for stuff that deep.
If you're doing other shallow work, the structure scan is simply amazing.
Now I'm no expert but isn't the 200/50 tranny good to at least 100m anyway - your own experience would confirm this. But if your generally fishing the 100m depths then the 1Kw would provide more detail at those depths.
Whatever traditional tranny you pick I would use the structure scan setup as well for the shallower stuff.

Spoke to a bloke this morning has structure scan, he reckons he uses it successfully to 70m with split screen to to show both but beyond 70m really need 200/50 which he gets good detail on to 250m, and beyond that the 1kW is a must.. So basically i need to renew 200/50 transducer for now seems to cover my depths and save some pocket money for structure scan setup down the track.
Thanks jnaut, thats pretty good sensitivity at that depth, i'd be happy with that, seems its a trade off between sensitivity and beam angle. For the depths i am fishing the 200/50 still seems to be the go. I think this is called paralysis by analysis....
