Ideas for backing plate for in-dash mounting GPS

Hi folks,
Santa helped me out this year with a new GPS/ Fishfinder. My 12 year old Humminbird not being worth repairing, is in - dash mounted. The new one is a larger unit, but needs a smaller cutout/ opening to mount. I was thinking of getting some black perspex or similar to make a 'plate' over the existing hole , but not sure where to get it, and how to get it cut to size neatly etc. Ideas would be welcome. I'm in Redlands area if that helps. Saw sheets of perspex at Bunnies for around $50 but I reckon thats a bit steep seing that I only need a small piece cut etc. Cheers in advance for your ideas. I find the $5. cutting boards at the $2. shop useful for these types of projects.
