re Lowrance HDS SS version 1 - upgrade tranducer

hi - for those that may be interested i have checked this info with Lowrance Australia now and it appears the lowrance have updated the structure scan skimmer originally released with the HDS Gen 1 and its now called a Structure Scan HD Skimmer XDCR for the newer Gen 2 units - this updated SS HD skimmer can work with both the original gen 1 units also according to lowrance and does give an increased side scan range ( approx 100 m each side ?) and also downscan range ( 100 m ) over the original gen 1 SS skimmer for the older HDS gen 1 units - works on the 455 hz range only and its cost is $269 and can be ordered thru you lowrance dealer if you wish to do that -

PS i have no involvement with lowrance at all ( and in fact i am a bit miffed about HDS gen2 coming out not that long after i bought my HDS SS gen 1 unit) and so i am just putting this up as i dont think its been generally put out there that this possible useful SS and DS range upgrade is available for the HDS SS gen i units at what i think is a pretty reasonable cost - has to beat buying a new HDS SS gen 2 unit if your HDS SS gen 1 unit is still working ok as mine is -

Note - also there is a firmware up grade available V 4.1 on the lowrance site for the HDS gen 1 units which i suspect one may possibly need to use the upgraded side scan HD skimmer
