Thread: Tying a new double.

    Tying a new double.

    Hey guys,

So each trip I re-tie my doubles the night before, just wondering if this is necessary, or can I keep using the same double and trace line as long as it's not damaged in any way?

I think it gives me peace of mind knowing the double has just been tied and is nice and strong.

    Thanks.

Nicko, I used to just check out the doubles but lately they have been failing on the second trip out, I have also started lose fish on other knots and have now realised that with age and the need for reading glasses that going by feel is not all it was so now I have to use them when I tie any knot. Previously it wasn't a concern if I was going out on successive days but often I would retie all knots the night before as it gave me the opportunity to check the runners on the rod and the reel as well.

I check my knots the night before each trip and pay particular attention to the braid before the knot. Generally I retie cos there is a bit of fraying and I hate havin to re tie on the water.

I tie all new knots the night or day before a fishing trip regardless if the knot seems ok especially if the knot is going through the guides on the cast. It's hard enough then be at the mercy of a dodgy old tired knot.

thanks guys, it's almost unanimous, I'll keep re-tying, probably better to do a quick re-tie the night before rather than lose a good or even trophy fish.
