Re- A Navionics new Gold card and its use in an older LCX 27 c combo unit
Hi all - my query is can i use a new updated Navionics Gold card in my older Lowrance LCX 27 c and will it read it ok - not too slow etc - so is anyone using a new updated Navionics Gold card in a older type GPS unit and is it ok as i use my older LCX 27 c on my trailer sailer - i currently use a Gold/XL9 SD/32XG V02.22. in it which is about 1 & bit years old in it and it works fine - so the BIAS guys think it should be ok to buy the upgraded version but arent certain and Navionics just ignore my emailed request for info on this
cheers and thanks rob

I run the same card - an XL9 SD Gold 32XG in an LCX37C and like you, live on Moreton Bay. What are the 'gains' you are looking for with the 'updated' card? I took up the Green Zones 'change-over' offer some time ago which was fine, but not sure what is triggering your interest in an 'updated' chart and what those updates might entail. Any further info?

yea hi superdaff and agree no real need probably to update the card for the bay and nearby areas as not too many changes or so i believe - i use it both in my trailer sailer with a lcx 27 c unit and in my quin 480 coast runner with a hds 7 gen 1 with ss and i am planning to head off up north shortly with the quin in tow to do a bit of fishing hervey bay - hinchin brook etc and i believe there are quite few changes to the no go zones by the DH's that draw the no go lines on maps etc for up north - just dont want to end up in the wrong place fishing and wear a fine reckon its much cheaper to just upgrade the gold card for $150 as long as i can still use it in both my lowrance units

Thanks Patrol 50 - I will be interested in the outcome, please advise accordingly.
And a tip that might be helpful, drop an email to Simone at Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and ask her to post you the relevant maps for the locations you might be visiting. (They have all the current zonings shaded on them - very easy to follow). They are in large format and are free. They are typically numbered like MPZ17 for Marine Park Zone 17 which applies to the area generall east of Gladstone. Just shoot an email to: info@gbrmpa.gov.au The guys there are really helpful on this issue. Or you can ring them on 1800 990 177. Regards

Re: Re- A Navionics new Gold card and its use in an older LCX 27 c combo unit
ok finally got onto Navionics and its not real good news - all of the NEW navionics cards are 2 gb capacity and the older cards were a 1 gb capacity card e.g my Gold XL9 SD/32XG V02.22 is a 1 gb card - navionics advise they dont believe the older gps or combo units like my Lowrance LCX 27 c will be able to read the new updated 2 gb cards too well if at all as the new cards have well over 1 gb in content on them and the older Lowrance units are programmed to read up to a 1 gb card - so they say its best to stick with the older version 1 gb cards for the older type units - also navionics dont have any of the older 1 gb map cards available for sale any more - so they can only now be sourced off ebay or second hand etc - so maybe look after the old cards if you have a older type unit guys
cheers rob
ps thanks superdaff for the tip - cheers rob
