    sync your mobile phone ?????

My HTC phone is playing up and I have been advised to sync it and then do a factory reset. My problem is they say I need MS Outlook to sync my contacts & calender, well I don't have MS Outlook.

Any ideas what else would work. Starting to think I should have stayed with Nokia.

Re: sync your mobile phone ?????

    I love my HTC explorer.
    Why I hear you say??
I sank the bloody thing in the lure testing tank and did not realise for a long time (about 3 hours)
I found it in the bottom (they don't float) and when i pulled it out the screen was still working. I pulled the battery off and bungeded it in the sun for a few hours and it's never had a problem. The drowning was near 12 months ago.
Bung all your contacts onto your SIM card, do a software upgrade and then a reset.

After you finish dunking your phone and all that other fancy stuff finga reckons to do head over to chermside/carindale and pick yourself up a IPhone.

Assuming your HTC is running android, you can set up to sync with Facebook or gmail, the only reason you are syncing is to preserve your contacts. Upload any photos to Picasa or Facebook, or just copy everything you want to keep to the memory card, remove the card and then do the factory reset.

Download the app "look out mobile security" its free and you can back up all your contacts and photos online. It is also a virus scanner and you are able to log into your account from another computer and use the gps function on your phone to find it if it is lost or stolen.
And stay away from that iphone garbage.

Take it back to the shop you bought it from with your old phone and ask them to save your contacts and put them on the new phone. I have never left a shop without my contacts in the new phone. And as for the iPhone bit ignore it the aerials are rubbish compared to android style phones. The other option is find a teenager. They can work most phones

Re: sync your mobile phone ?????

Oops. I told a bit of a fibber.
All I've done is do a software update and restart the phone not do a factory reset.

    What's your phone doing Tropi?

What's the advantage of having an i-phone over having a HTC for those who don't spend every second on twitface telling people when they're having a dump or need the interwebby thing at all times or don't like carrying something the size of War and Peace (it's a book for those who don't know) around in their top pocket?

Would an i-phone have stood up with the dunking my HTC coped?
Does an i-phone cost $99 like my HTC did?
What's the advantage/necessity of having an i-phone especially for those who like a phone to be....just a phone?

Re: sync your mobile phone ?????

Thanks for all the feedback except for all the i-phone crap.

I keep getting this message "com.android phone" has suddenly stopped working. This effects the blue tooth and my phone wont connect to my car hands free. I'll download "look out mobile security" and see if tha'ts a goer.

    Hey mate,

Ignore the crApple sheep...it's the typical unhelpful responses of the uneducated... I have to deal with Android and Apple on a daily basis for work. I'm not going to hijack this thread with crApple bashing, but in my professional opinion, I would never own one.

Pics, music, etc are normally saved to external storage - a micro SD card in the phone. If this is the case, you only need to back up your contacts and calendar (if you use it) Do you know if you have one in the phone? If you don't, get one. You can get 8GB for about $15

As said earlier, back up your contacts and calendar to GMail. If you have photos, back them up to Picasa.

    or

If you do have an SD card in the phone, go to People>press Menu>Import/Export>press Export to storage>press OK

This will export your contacts to the SD card.

Turn the phone off, take out your SD card to be safe, turn it on, do your factory reset, turn it off, put the card back in and do an Import the contacts.

Alternately, plug it in to your PC via USB cable, select Mass Sotrage Mode (which should pop up on the screen when you plug it in to the PC) and copy your pics off.

Install Wondershare MobileGO for Android on your PC. http://www.wondershare.com/android-manager/

Enable USB debugging on the phone: Go to Setup>Applications>Development and put a tick against USB Debugging.

Connect the phone to the PC, launch MobileGO and it is pretty intuitive how to back up contacts, etc. There is a guide here: http://www.guidingtech.com/11863/bac...id-windows-pc/

    Hope this helps...

Re: sync your mobile phone ?????

Why don't you just get your phone to sync with your gmail account. It will back up contacts, apps, sms, everything (automatically)...!

BTW... Compared to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), Iphone 5 is way behind the eight ball.
