I am in desparate need for some advise from someone who actually owns one of these units..I took it out the other day and as I have mentioned in my last post , got nothing but gain and scattered ##*&. I have attached a small clip of what my screen is doin.
REALLY NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO HAS THIS UNIT... went into BCF and they told me to put it on auto and still no differnce. Anyhow have a look at this...

Have you mucked about with your contrast? That is the main thing to getting clear reading imo
If it is jumping depth like that I would think there are two possibilities.
Either the gain is set way too high and you are receiving fish echos as being the bottom (unlikely but possible) or there is a fault in the wiring or connections giving a fluctuation in the signals sent and returned.
Have you tried the sounder in calm water?? You appear to be bouncing around in the slop a fair bit and the echo return is not very stable.
It could also be your choice of music too i guess.

as jack said or option 3. transducer is not at right height. i have that unit and that is what i get if my transducer kicks up. have you had it working previously or has it just been installed?

Mine does occasionally spaz out similar to that, but not as bad.
Is it new or second hand?
Yer the music does suck but....I was in Lake Tinaroo and it was pretty calm bar some light surface chop, got it second hand,transducer sits half exposed from hull, how do I adjust gain?, Funchy the gain settings are something I didnt think about thought it was just for lighting,.. Will check wiring and adjust transducer..I personally think im at the ass end of someone elses nightmare...but anyway keep the tips rolling in...
Hey Funchy, after looking at that link you gave me Ive noticed that the transducer is angled horizontal???
I feel a bit of a knob if the problem is with me pointing the ducer directly down??? Is this wrong??
Should be horizontal just like the pic.

have a good look at that pic. you will end up with the same scenario if it is not set at the right height. you also need to take note of where the strakes are as well or you will end up with "bubble" interference which looks much the same as what you have.

Can you post a photo of the transducer setup, side ways view ( to show transducer position in relation to bootom of boat) ?
I just re-installed my transducer, and it is working really well now.

Hey a huge thanks to you all guys.. I ended up playing with the transducer and the contrast and have a much cleaner screen. Just cruising at a few knots and see bottom perfectly although I no I'm goin over trees but can only see faint lines nothing like the simulator!! Any ideas? I upped the contrast also but was expecting to see a pretty good picture??
Try a lower contrast in shallower water. I have mine on about 36%. I can usually see the anchor rope go down and the bubble trail it is so clear.
