Caboolture River Muddy

A good mate and I finally found time to take the boat out today. My last couple of trips to the Pine had been pretty poor so decided to try the Caboolture River. I've only fished it a couple of times a few years ago and although we didn't get too many keepers, only two whiting, had a great day and were kept entertained by a heap of just unders and rewarded with a good sized muddy.

Looking forward to fishing it again (maybe on a better weather day) and learning a few of its secrets - including which yabby banks are best as we struggled to pump more than one from every half dozen holes on the banks opposite the ramp.

the banks opposite the ramp get pumped regularly, you might have been able to see all the old holes.. further around a bit out and past the mouth is has been better for me in the past. Mid tide mark was the best also.. Good luck with it, ive had some great sessions on the tide changes at and around the mouth.. The wind would have made it hard there in the last few days though..

Afe: The wind was a bit of a challenge, thanks for the info - but is it the north or south side of the mouth.

Peter: I still use plastics from time to time but half the fun is catching the bait, maybe because I don't catch enough fish!

North side.. towards Beachmere, but remember the half tide mark is where i have had success with Yabbies.. The deeper water on the run out goes well with flatties just drift past the markers and hop plastics. As long as your lure hits the bottom your a chance. Blades work well there too, different weights at different tides depending on the run... Blades rock!!

For me, plastics is what gives me the ultimate satisfaction... But when the fish are off the bite and shut down for whatever reason, fresh caught bait may mean the difference between ringing the mrs on the way home and telling her to get to the supermarket before they close because you have had a doughnut haha!!

was up their a few weeks back and did a overnighter crabbing only got two 17-18cm muddies but the young bloke caught a nice a mangrove jack as for yabbies did not try for any that day but good to see got a nice crab oh was a few jew to but to little to keep .
