Well done Dean another good session mate I was up at Scarby and that wind come up quick got soaked myself coming back in to Well done mate some nice snaps there.
back to mud again today, fished same area as saturday for similar results. 3 nice squire 39-53cm and a few just legal grassies.
Caught just about all fish in a hot little half hour session.
Almost all caught on small squid or floating ganged pilly.
No macks today.
Mate kept slateys.
We are finding the fish on pretty much flat bottom 5 -6mtrs depth, but pulling up plenty of clumps of musselly corally stuff on the lines which seems to be what they are feeding on.
Got drenched on the way back by mongrel NE breeze
Crabs are starting to thin out in my area, only 3 keepers for all day soak today.
Cheers!
Dad reckons fishing is 10% brains and 95% muscle, the rest is just good luck.

You did better than I did Kingcray. I slept in after a few too many last night and didn't get to Mud until about 6.30. I fished the northern side and the north-east corner wide because the car park was pretty full by then and I couldn't raise a scale. Ended up going in close to try for a few bream. Didn't get many bream but was quite happy to get a feed and a good bait supply as well.

not eating the gar this time Freeeedom?? strange how those dart keep showing up around the islands.
There was no current until after 7.00am anyway so was very slow for me until after then. I never have ANY luck fishing eastern side, and yes i did see the car park! i just try and find a little rise of a meter or 2 away from everybody else

What's the trick with gar? I remember you used to be able to catch them on a small long-shank hook with any sort of bait, even bread. The other day I couldn't entice them with nice peeled prawn. Perhaps their eyes are getting keener for the hooks. My bait kept getting smashed by thumb-size tailor instead! Cute little buggers they were.
looks like you guys have got the snapper at Mud sorted.Good consistent catches.Well done.
Life is short fish hard!!!

Some nice snapps there Dean.
Well done mate.
Cheers, Doug.
Love to use Preditek or Kingfisher lures or Viva Lures when I am out fishing.
I never use a long shank hook - it seems to make them reject the bait as soon as they feel the hook. I use my luderick hooks - sizes 8 - 12 and a small piece of peeled prawn or dough from the white bread I use as berley. Throw pieces of bread, with the crust as well, ( about 3-4cm square) onto the water and the gar will form a 'feeding frenzy' all trying to get some. As the piece of bread gets eaten a small piece with a hook in it thrown close to the crowd will get swallowed almost at once. They also like a moving bait, so throw past the crowd and draw you float back towards and through them. This draws an eager crowd following the bait and it will get eaten as soon as you pause it.

Hey Dean, well done, a good mixed bag. I spent the night out at Mud with visiting outlaws, we caught a huge number of undersize snapper and sweetlip. Also only three legal sand crabs. I think the place has been flogged this Christmas due to the good weather. Some rain is neaded.
Cheers, Mark
