    Unhappy Snapped trailer at ramp

    Hey All,
Was putting my boat in the other day and as I was taking boat off trailer one of the front arms of my trailer snapped at the join. (Very imbarresing!!). I was able to get boat back on trailer, with the help of two blokes at the ramp, (Thanks guys) And limp my boat home. My neighbour and I welded it back together but it is just a temporary thing as trailer if full of rust. Have rang around a few boat yards and they were pretty pricey. Is it cheaper to have one made or am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any suggestions would be good. Thanks Nick.

Boat is 4.5m coxcraft half cab.

    Hi Nick!,
This happened to me as well on an old 510 easyrider. I rang around the marine outlets and found a second hand one that worked for me. No need to buy a new one mat, there are second hand ones around.

    Cheers

Give the trailer a once over and if rust seems bad then time to replace. If some sections are rusty but the majority of the trailer is good replce the rusty sections and you should see another year or so out of it. Otherwise as Marty stated plenty of second hand ones out there to suit that size boat.

If you are after a new one, or need a significant rebuild done, these guys have a pretty good reputation for both:

If you can con your neighbour into helping you weld one up, consider making your own out of C channel. No need for gal, just paint. Keep the paint up and the trailer will outlast anything you can buy made out of box section.
