I'm not sure Gazza but here's my story so far.
Got a Google Nexus 7 and found the navionics software wasn't approved for it yet, it will happen sooner or later but the waiting is killing me.
You should be looking for a clone of a tablet that is already approved.
It will need at a minimum GPS and removable memory.
If you have wifi an internet connection isn't needed.
bugger i was hopping someone had already found a chinese compatible model by now i just dont want to for out a lot of money on a ipad if theres a chance its going to get wet
Here's their compatibility list.

Pick the size you want then head off to China & try to find a clone.
I've found dino direct to have quite few tablets.
You can a life proof case for the iPad now 100% waterproof , if its as good as the phone covers it'll be fine ...Matt
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
i just bought a nexus 7 which has the latest Android operating System and found the same thing with Navionics not yet available for it, i reckon it is because the program has not been updated to keep pace with the improvements in the Android operating system. Some of the chinese tablets are being sold with earlier versions of the operating system which should be compatible with Navionics. I down loaded the program "Flyto Maps onto the Nexus 7 and this is a failure so far as it does not download the needed maps, it just quits before completing down load. Hopefully the programs will catch up soon.

Please update your Android Applications to the newest update 2.6.2 released today, where bug fixing and optimizations have been implemented. We are still working on Nexus 7 certification btw.
thanks guys FED i dont think navionics will work on any of the chinese models i might just keep using my iphone but the screen is so tiny
Navionics works fine on the latest android version. What you will be waiting for approval on, is the GPS module (or device drivers) in the device you are buying. not the operating system.

Honda.
Edit - after further research with gazza as a guinea pig it seems this only works with a jail broken phone and tvout2 or similar app.
Another cheap option is you can get an av cable for your iphone for under $20 on dealextreme or evilbay and it should work on the incar DVD tv's that you can get for less than $100 (can get 10 and 12in versions too) I bought an pair of 7in ones for $79 for the car a few years back so i am going to buy the cable and use the DVD player one for the kids in the boat and use the second monitor as a larger iphone display for the nav app.
is this what u mean? http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_o...vd+tv&_sacat=0
not the indash ones the portable version like these -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DUAL-SCRE...6557%26ps%3D54
or a single screen like this -

with this -

or cheap version -

just make sure the monitor has AV input.

Interesting thread as I was contemplating getting a combo gps fish finder unit.
If this works then no need for expensive units
