    Platey dumped on ramp.

There was a few embarrassed boys at the Spinnaker boat ramp last night. I was in the trailer park tidying up when cruuuuunch, spun around, and here is this large white platey being chased down the ramp with a ute and trailer. Would appear the left hand didn't what the deckie and right hand were up to, and you can't blame the driver, he did a good job to get it to the water, bit sideways, but he saved it. Was gonna wander down and offer assistance but they had it in the water, and no serious harm done. Would say it was only the hull that did the scrunching as they were heading out of spinnaker as we were crossing the bridge.
Hope they had a good nights fishing.

Had the same thing happen to me a number of years back... scored an invite onto a 19 foot alloy boat from a friend of a friend.. at the same boat ramp and was standing back as they owner and the friend did their bit to get the boat ready to back into the water... they undid the safety chain and the winch cable and all the tie downs and started to reverse the boat down the ramp... all was good until the driver lightly touched the brakes and then it all went pear shaped... lots of screaming and yelling and the driver gunned it backwards towards the water... end result was the boat did bottom out as it crunched into the ramp in about a foot of water but it did float off and didn't end up on its side which was a real possibility..... funnily enough I never got a second invite to go fishing with this guy even though we had a good day out at Moreton Island..

    Hey fat

Why didn't you raise a little concern about their preparations, were you holding a camera or something?
I wonder why you didn't get a second invite after you posted it on utube!

    Happy New Year anyhow!

LOL No Chimo, I was off to the side as they had been fishing together and seemed to know the drill.... I only became aware of the situation when the boat started to seperate from the trailer and then I was in there trying to hold the two together for as long as my arms were

Saw similar a few years back when group of 20 somethings in brand new Nissan and brand new Quinnie 610 Offshore at Raby Bay ramp.

All keen and unhooked everything... started to back it down with 3 " observers " " left , right, left etc etc ". Came to the ramp downhill bit............... off she rolls.

Landed on ramp and they all stood about scratching their heads. I had just returned from a nights fishing at Peel. I wandered over and without laughing, suggested we all push it into it's keel and then push it into the water. That was about 4 -6 mtrs down the ramp...

We did that, and I went about retrieving my boat. I was rigging ready to depart when the loud call came in on the wind. %$#@ %%$^$# ^^^

YES...... no bung..... I couldn't stay.........

I could have only imagined how many other incidents were about to take place. They were obviously novices, but you can only help some people so much.

When starting out we all make a few mistakes though some make bigger ones than others, a mate of my brother thought he'd start the outboard up on his new boat in about 3'' of water lol

    Re: Platey dumped on ramp.

My early boating trip saw me put the boat in forwards at the ramp instead of reverse, quickly chucked it into reverse which caused the boat to do a complete 180 deg turn between the pontoons!!!! Nearly hit the boat on the other side but atleast i was facing out towards the ocean lol.

Only a few months ago a i watched a haines 680 patriot being backed down the wallaroo ramp, driver hit the pegs to allow the boat to gracefully roll of the trailer into the water only to find he stopped about a meter short. CRUNCH massive ramp rash, guy looked less than impressed, not helped by the many giggles, oohs, aahs and finger pointing from the other 10 - 15 people at the ramp.
