manson supreme or super sarca bowsprit recommendatons

hi,

I'm looking to do set up a new anchor, winch and bowsprit on my 24footer and I'm having a bit of an issue selecting the bowsprit!!

I intend to get a sarca or manson about 10kg but I would like a bowsprit that will accept any type of anchor IE reef pic or the old delta< just until I get around to buying the new one etc>

any help would be great. cheers

Ocean Solutions at Yatala is who I use for my anchors and Bow Rollers (5549 1212)
Sarca are good, Manson are better, Rocna are excellent anchors.

Have a look at the Anchorlift bow sprits.
I have one on my Haines with a 10kg Rocna anchor.
Best anchoring system I have used.

Pete can you give us a bit more of your knowledge on these anchors. I am tossing up between them. My understanding was that the Sarca shed mud better to reset quicker on the swing of the tide due to the convex fluke design

The Sarca are a good anchor, but personally I think the Manson Supreme and the Rocna are better anchors.
Tip is they like to have plenty of chain to keep them in place, otherwise they can drag.
I found this on a 35 Caribbean and a 625 Cruise Craft.

The Manson Supreme is a great anchor and the people that have them, swear by them.
I would be more than happy to have one on my boat.

The Rocna has by far the best holding power for the size of the anchor.
You could go down an anchor size and still have excellent holding power.
We had a client with a 44ft boat with a Manson (standard) that would not hold the boat properly.
Anchor was bigger than was required (good thing) chain was right size etc etc.
Changed over to the same size Rocna and he can now anchor anywhere (even in weed) and the boat never moves.
The first test we gave the Rocna on this boat was in soft silty mud in the harbour. The Manson standard could be dragged through the mud with some power from the motors.
The Rocna could not be moved with any power from the motors.

The speed of the "bite" is very good on all of them, even when the boat changes direction.
Our 800 Patriot anchors perfectly with the 10kg Rocna (and I have it set up wrong with only about 2 metres of chain).
On tide changes, the boat doesnt move when the anchor resets... it is instant.

You won't go wrong with any of the anchors, but these are my personal findings.

Same anchor, the Fisherman has the slotted top to allow a shackle to slide along.
The Fisherman is only available in the smaller sizes.

I found the stainless bow spits way to XXXXXXXEEEEE for me.
So I had this one made out of aluminium.Boat roller.jpg It works well.

Hi Pete,

with the Sarca I have found it hard to find a captive bow roller the will accept a 10kg sarca, is this the same issue with the Manson or is their shank narrower?? I was told that the sarca shank in the home position is 140mm do you know if the manson is the same or smaller?

So far I have not read much that recommends one or the other so with your first hand input I a already leaning towards the manson.. the rocna does not offer the reef recovery option in the 25lb size I dont think and as I live in cairns the reef option is what Im looking for..

In saying that Manson say for a 23.5foot boat a 15lb would be the right size..

any info would be great..

My current model Haines 600 has a "captive" bowsprit and thus the "rollbar" style of super anchors don't fit easily.

Having had dragging problems in high current situations with the plough that I originally had, I went with a Manson Boss anchor that fits this style of bowsprit well. I must say even though it is only a 15lb, it holds remarkably well and I thought by its shape it would always bring up buckets of mud but somehow it doesn't. It also has the ability to have the sliding shackle for difficult ground. Not sure if you can get them here yet but easy ex US.

I have never seen one before and maybe just what Im looking for..
have you dropped it in the reef? no issues getting it back?
and with out the roll bar does it re-set its self fast enough?

Haven't dropped it in coral reef yet but down here in the cold water I anchor in pretty rocky bottoms often and have had no problems retrieving. You can set the anchor to have a sliding shank and then you just motor over the anchor and pull from the front and it comes clear pretty easy.

When the tide changes here the boat swings around fairly quickly depending in what the wind is doing and as far as I can tell it resets immediately. I've had sarcas in the past and they were nowhere near as good as this thing in resetting. Not sure why the Manson agents here don't import them maybe they feel sarca owns the market or something, but easily bought from wests or defender in 5 or so days.

Good luck. I've probably bought a dozen anchors over the years trying to get the best performance that fits the boat of the time. Both the Manson supreme and the Rocna have good press if you can take the hoops, if you're like mine and can't the Boss is right up there IMHO.

I'm re-doing my whole anchor set up, still deciding what rolller to use so atm I'm not restricted but I do like that type of bow roller.

Basicly I just want to set it up so I can use any type of anchor but that does not seem to be an option as the sarca type of bow roller looks like it wont accept a normal old type of reef pick? and the captive type roller wont accept the hoop type of anchor..

Nver that easy is it..

I have changed from a 15lb plough to the same weight Manson Supreme recently, and use it on the shackle slide. Can say that the slide certainly works a treat when I recently hooked on to a bombie (not intentionally), but have also found that it seems to take a little longer to 'hook in' in sand.

I have also found that it is mostly a pain to 'dock' into the bow sprit with the standard 2-pce/hinged bow roller, as it nearly always comes up upside down, then gets stuck/wedged in and needs to be manually freed etc. I suppose that's why the fancy bow rollers are wider - so the anchor shank doesn't get wedged in when/if it flips over.
