No Marlin off Mud but some good fish to be found.....

Was keen to get out for a fish and see what was around so after we decided on what was going on we made the call to hit the bay in the tinny and see how the weather pans out and maybe skip over to tanga’s for a swim. Hit the mouth of the river and she was a little bit lumpy so we cruised over to hit a few spots, some cloud coverage and a little slop so we were in for a chance.
First few drifts and some solid hits and up comes a nice little grassy at 35cm, few more drifts and a few more grassy hit the esky 34 & 34. So we have a few in the box and ol mate who wasn’t feeling too well after a big night managed to hook on to something solid, few tails shakes def fish, but slow coming up… cod? Yep… big drag mouth cod but a nice size for the esky around 45. Some squire aboard and my mate who has a curse on his boat was out to shake it and gets a good hit…. Zzzzzzzzzz…gone???? Wtf. Ohhh not happy. I feel the pain .. prob a good fish that one I say. Few more casts and on the drop smack! The plastic gets hit on the drop and my mate is on, taking some drag and yeah bit of a tussle between the boat and roads he lands a nice snappz around 50.
Few more drifts and ol mate is on again zzzzzzzzzzzz… snap. Crap!. Then the other guys rod goes off…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz snap. Crap! Ohhhh no to good fish gone I say! LoL Well if anyone is going to land the good fish it will be me. LoL Few drifts and align ourselves out of the slop n wind so much to ease the drift speed and I am just casting away, dead stick gets a snag I throw on another plastic I previously took off due to the shredded tail but though hey why not looks good. Cast it out the back and flick over the bail arm grab my other rod wind in the slack and as I do the dead stick 2-4kg pfluger-sol 2000 6lb/10lb-fc buckles over and ripping off line like crazy zzzzzzzzzzzzzz… ohhhh sh!t there is a good one here, I get a little line and a nice fish, think I got it under control…mate is like start her up??? I am nah…. She takes of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz yep, yep lines in. So give chase and get some line back and follow it around… mange to get close hit the engine off and try to raise colour…. Get some line and zzzzzzzzzz sh!t….. few more minutes of that and up comes a good size snappz, yeah nice… so mate gets the net and after a few goes it comes to the surface and scooped up. Yeah….
So in the kill tank for this one.. too big for the esky she went 81 on the mat LoL, so few more drifts and everyone has put some fish in the box and overall a good day, little sloppy but came good as she always does, home around lunch and gave away the snapper as I promised a friend they could have my Christmas snapper but I did also manage some grassies which I filleted up at home and the wife knocked up a killer pan fry with sauce and potato salad. Great day pleany of laughs and happy with the best bay snapper so far. The closest I could get the other fella to fishing plastics was prawns and pillies on jig heads, so all fish caught on jig heads :-p - Tight lines - MOssY

Be sure to stop over and say hello, harder to find these days as my bright blue ski pants are in the cupboard for winter... listen for the profanities as I drop a fish. LoL -Merry Xmas and tight lines.

Hey Mossy, Great post, just love reading your success stories. A great catch of snapps and lippers. Hope to get out later this week to give them a go. Were you using Bazza's jig heads and Zmans for this haul?

    Regards, Mark
