Pete, Adrian, Josh and myself decided to sneak in a pre-chrissy "Noosa Lads" session. The Noosa bar was still looking dodgy with some big shore breaks and this time it was a run out tide so extreme caution was taken crossing once again. Not many boats around today though and the conditions were amazing. Glassy for most of the morning. We trolled for a bit in close and then slightly wider with no reels turning. Then looked for bait out a bit wider where we caught the marlin last weekend. Sure enough, the bait was there and so where the Marlin. I dropped a livey down and got smashed pretty quickly, had a fight for a few minutes on a big fish then had a bust off. Most likely a cobe. Then Pete hooked up on a livey and after some great footage successfully landed then released a nice black around the 20kg mark. Hook ups and bust-offs continued. Then I hooked up again, this time onto a cobia around 6kg which I landed quickly. The boat was chaos for about an hour, then things shut down. We trolled again for a couple of hours for nothing. Tried hard bodies, nicely rigged garfish, not a hit. Headed back to the bait mark to see if the marlin had woken back up and just before making a move Josh was winding in a livey when a bigger black followed in his bait. He stopped it dead and the marlin smashed it about 5 metres from the boat, went crazy and headed straight for the boat. I had that split second thought of it coming on board. Before I could move it had speared the side of the boat, then took off, reel screaming. I grabbed the camera and started filming as I had been doing all morning. It put on a great display and had us all in very high spirits. After about 15 minutes a nice 30kg Black was photo'd and released successfully. Another great session on "Aces High" with the Noosa lads. Absolutely loving the Edgewater centre console. Really is the ideal rig for sportsfishing. Here's some pics.
Merry Xmas.
