An eventful day both at the Noosa Bar and offshore on Sunday for "Aces High". Heading towards the bar we saw the coast guard towing an overturned 4m tinny back to base (photo attached) and 4 boats at the bar waiting to cross. I crept up, put on the life jacket and watched a set before making a decision to go for it. I got through OK but unfortunately for the guys that tried to follow me it wasn't so pretty. I turned with the GoPro still filming to see a boat getting smashed by the set that I just got over. Their OB stalled and they were stuck in the death zone. Luckily for them their vessel stayed head on and they managed to get the OB started again before the next big set came through. They turned around and headed back in, we headed out in search of Marlin.
Sunshine Reef was a parking lot and it wasn't long before one of the smaller vessels was onto a small Black. We got some footage and decided to find our own space further north. We picked up some live bait on a good show and deployed two straight away. Mine went out then Adrians. Adrian got smacked within minutes and he was onto a small Black. It put on a good show for the video camera and after a 10-15 minute battle it was in the boat for a quick photo and then safely released. Whilst Adrian was fighting 2 wahoo swam around the boat, we threw everything at them but they weren't on the chew.
We trolled for a bit to try and get them excited with some lures but to no avail. We went back to floating out livies and then Josh got smacked and busted off on the bottom. He quickly re-rigged, deployed another livie and he was on again. Another small black jumped out of the water but then spat the hook. They seemed to go quiet after this. One black was swimming along side the boat teasing us for a while. The wind picked up around 11am so we headed back to the ramp to hear more stories of carnage from the mornings bar incidents.
Have attached some still shots from the video footage.
Be careful out there guys.
Cheers
Dave
