Was keen to fish saturday but ended up off to put some money down on a recurve and hopefully fit in some bling for the bow without creating too much on the wifes radar. So decided sunday was the G.O made a few calls to the regulars and they were heading out offshore or spending time with their better halves, my spidey senses were telling me no Davo near mud, strike now! So afterthe work Xmas party I decided to not drink and release the bourbon monster another time. Glad I did as I turned the corner of kingsford smith to find an RBT, well after chatting with the officer who was more interested in fishing than actually taking a breath sample. Few laughs and a breath sample and I was on my way to the ramp, met up with an ausfisho to head out to mud for a plastics session.
Was a magic day with cloud cover about and the swell low and winds down, so cracked over to mud and positioned up a drift.... Few taps n hits and some interest around, the sounder was glowing with bait fish and a large solid rock came under which later surfaced as the big local turtle. Few more casts and reposition the drift and wack... the dead stick buckles over and up comes a squire just on 37cm in the box and keep going. Plenty of small squire around with the odd grassie. Bit of a interest and I slowly lift and she loads up and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz yeah moreton bay bay that is the ticket, fight this one on my medium gear (10lb leader :-p) and up comes some colour and nice snapper, deckie gets a good net and into the box this one goes up there around the 66cm mark. Few more drifts and the odd squire coming up and not long after I get a nice hit and up comes a squire self netted at about 45cm, wow one more and I got "my" bag limit now one over 70 and that would be nice.....
Another drift and a flicking out the zman's thinking what a great day on the bay and some fish in the box I am happy as a pig in the proverbial, so drifting and flicking and on the drop this one rockets off.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz yeah nice another one and it was taking abit of line, thought about the electric but was like nah f-that I'll bring it in... Bit more of a tussle this one as it was a better size, plenty of runs and once I get some colour I back of the drag a little (hard to believe? I know netmaker ) So the deckie gets the net under this one and another cracking snapper on the deck... Old dud island does turns it one for mossy once again. Couple more drifts and was thinking nearly time to call it I am getting hungry and I done everything I can to get the deckie a nice snapper even offered one of mine.
Awesome day on the bay and great weather, deckie managed a tuskie 35 on the plastics and plenty of squire so kept us entertained, next trip I promise you'll get a good snapper mate, either I am bad luck for you or you are good luck for me. Dropped in to my mate barry's place to drop off some fresh fish, thought I would ring ahead and make sure the old fella knew I was coming and after a couple of goes explaining to his son it wasn't "Missy" but "Mossy" on the phone we got there in the end, he cut up some fillets for me and grabbed a few flicks, few minor technical difficulties with the smart phone but he managed to work it out.
Cheers and tight lines - MISSY
