    Rate your Elite 5 DSI

ok guys....sounder gps combo coming up for the kayak soon.
Rate your Elite 5 DSI combo unit for me.
What do you dislike about it?
Would you buy a replacement if you only had similar dollars to spend?

Going onto a kayak so I'm not worried about it keeping bottom at speed cuz I'm just too old and lazy for flat out paddling and getting my yak onto the plane is only possible at the airport.

    Cheers.
    Jack.

I know it's not the DSI (which I want to purchase, so watching this thread closely), but I have the standard elite 5 and I don't like it at all. My much older X137 (or some such) is a much much better sounder. o_O

Well, I have only ever owned one FF and As you know Tony I have the 4 in the yak When it was running I thought it was great, would even see the bubbles on the screen as I dropped the anchor over, real easy to "tune in" on the fly. Just wish I could sort my transducer problem

    I rate em mate

Do they have the ability to adjust screen size yet? ie move left or right to make sonar larger map smaller or vice versa?

I rate my Elite 5 DSI combo: 9/10. Got one on the tinnie.

I personally love it. Have no problem maintaining depth. Bait schools are more refined instead of a big blob on the screen. Structure is extremely detailed; bridges, branches, even seen what looked like a chicken wire fence once. Easy to see in the sun and heaps of functions that I have no idea how to use aswell!

The only thing i hated was the tiny little wires connected to the inline noise filter (they're power cables), it's like speaker wire. Other than that it's been great. For a yak they'd be perfect.

Would I buy another? In that price range, most likely.

Hey Toasted, Im about to set up mine for the first time when i get home from work and was wondering if youd share some info. Do you have yours set on Auto??. Do you find that goin at a couple of knots in fresh water it works best or ?????
If you dont have it set on Auto then what colour do you feel brings the detail more and what are the steps in setting your unit to say 15m Lake Arrawong conditions. Appreciate your help buddy..At present in Glady also....

Everything is set to default settings except I locked it to 455kHz (you can select both or either one or auto). I like the purple colour best, it's pleasing on the eyes. Never really mixed them up much, but they do make a difference.

A slow idle will show best results, in salt anything over say 9kts it will struggle to give really clean crisp detail.

Sadly never used it in the fresh, but super keen to try it. As far as setting it up, I can't really say. If you're unhappy with the Auto Settings results just have a play around with it.

If this wind keeps up I'll be taking the boat out to Awoonga on Sunday for a look.
