Raby Bay yak session
Hi all,
Got myself a kayak last weekend (Malibu Stealth9... definitely recommen to anyone looking for a first yak, extremely stable and plenty of storage ), had the chance to get out on it yesterday. Tee'd up a mate who also has been yak fishing for years to show us the ropes. We decided to launch around near cleveland boat ramp at 7am flick against the rock wall on the way to the canal.... bad idea, way too choppy on the shallows.
So we work the first few pontoons with unweighted gulp 2" shrimp, had a few bumps but no hookups. Then I finally got my first yak bream at 28cm with 2 moses perch to follow, only around 20cm though. All fish were released.
By this time it was close to 10:30am and the sun was absolutely destroying us and the fish had turned off completely so we decided to head back around.. it was even rougher by now, had waves crashing over the bow of the kayak..
Quite a nice paddle for my first time out, very keen to get out more often!
Cheers,
Gavin

Re: Raby Bay yak session
Sounds like a all right maiden voyage.Been thinking about fishin those canals for a while now .Are there any other easy points of entry other then Cleveland boat ramp? Iam in a canoe & dont want to cut across from the ramp would prefer to enter elsewhere in the canal .

If you know where the Cleveland bowls club is, there is a bank easily accessed which you can launch from directly into the canal.
