I would buy 2 x 5"combos like HDS5 or similar and run one as a plotter the other as a sounder then you have a backup if one fails. Also any who have the touch screen jobbies how do they go with fishy slimey fingers all over them?

We always hang a cloth off the bait board to wipe hands, don't like having to clean slime off reels, usually give the screen a wipe with a clean cloth on the odd occasion I get excited and forget I have been handling fish or bait. 2yrs in and the screen still looks and works fine, that said, it is under cover also.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will keep the current combo as redundancy so that is why I was after another combo. That way I have 2 plotters and 2 two sounders in case one fails. Interesting, I will have to do some more research and have a think.

I don't bother catching fish anymore .... just play with the touch screens Macca!

The Simrad units have buttons and a 'rotary knob' that you can use instead of the touchscreen if you have messy fingers. Don't know about the other brands though?

Buy a good sounder and a cheap plotter. A great looking plotter does not catch you any more fish. A good sounder will. Don't try and share the space

Nothing like a good play with a rotary knob. Murph tells me it is the in thing on your boat!
