I would buy 2 x 5"combos like HDS5 or similar and run one as a plotter the other as a sounder then you have a backup if one fails. Also any who have the touch screen jobbies how do they go with fishy slimey fingers all over them?

We always hang a cloth off the bait board to wipe hands, don't like having to clean slime off reels, usually give the screen a wipe with a clean cloth on the odd occasion I get excited and forget I have been handling fish or bait. 2yrs in and the screen still looks and works fine, that said, it is under cover also.Originally Posted by the lump
Thanks for all the feedback. I will keep the current combo as redundancy so that is why I was after another combo. That way I have 2 plotters and 2 two sounders in case one fails. Interesting, I will have to do some more research and have a think.

I don't bother catching fish anymore .... just play with the touch screens Macca!
The Simrad units have buttons and a 'rotary knob' that you can use instead of the touchscreen if you have messy fingers. Don't know about the other brands though?

Buy a good sounder and a cheap plotter. A great looking plotter does not catch you any more fish. A good sounder will. Don't try and share the space

yeah I may be coming to that conclusion.
Nothing like a good play with a rotary knob. Murph tells me it is the in thing on your boat!
